The day didn't start too early, we slept till we woke up naturally. Washed up a bit and we headed for Greens to have our breakfast. We were hoping the breakfast will be as good as the lunch we had yesterday. And they certainly did not disappoint, my flipjacks and Tong's SA tradition breakfast was oishii. We were particularly impressed with the mushrooms! One of the tastiest we've ever tried definitely!
After the hearty bf, we drove to the seapoint where we got down to get some seawind and some walk along the sea. We saw a couple of SA kids kicking balls with 2 Englishmen and we couldn't help but join in the fun! It was just a relaxing kickabout but playing ball in a foreign land sure feels different. We dilly dallied around the waterfront area after that to try to check out the places as well as see if we can get last minute tickets for the Argentina Germany Quarters to be played in Cape Town! But unfortunately we had no luck with that. And so we headed to a restaurant nearer to our guesthouse for lunch for a change. I had a burger and Tong had some soup and spagettis. Not bad but wasn't as good as Greens in our opinion. By now Tong was in a terrible shape, probably due to the sea winds earlier.
So I saw Tong back home as he decided he needed some rest. I then headed up Table Mountain myself since I had time on my hand and they say Table Mountain is a must go, it even tried to get itself into the new7wonders of the world. The lower cable car station is just a few minutes drive away from our guesthouse. The Arg-Ger kickoff was in an hours time and when I got down from my car I was shocked by the sounds of vuvuzelas! I turned around and tried to find the source of the sounds and I manage to see the Green Point Stadium afar and the vuvu sounds was resonating from there! Incredible!
I duely bought my cable car ticket and headed up the mountain. Wasn't too long a ride though. I was up there in no time. The top of the mountain was really flat, no surprise since it's called TABLE mountain I guess. Beng flat, it was pretty easy to navigate about but the area was really large. Took me a couple of hours to go 1 round, which includes some cam-whoring and scenery appreciation of course!
Met a Thai, called Paul, who's studying in Canada. Had a little chat and went our own way. Not a lot of Asians around, probably 'cos Japan and Korea were eliminated by then. The cliffs were pretty amazing, I mean since it's table-shaped, so its edges were like almost 90degrees, not much of a slope around. Can almost see the Cape if only the weather was a little better! Robben Island and the Greenpoint Stadium were pretty much visible though.
After my camera's batt went out, I believe it was a signal to end the tour of the mountain and head back to find Runny-nose Tong. Ok..i really wanna say this, If Tong's nose was a marathoner, he would have broken the world record, smash it even! 'Cos it can run non-stop for so long and so fast! Ok..cold but I really need to get this off my chest! :- I bought a mini Jabulani on the way down.
Managed to catch the 2nd Half of the Quarter-finals when I got back. Arg down 1-0..f**K! I still harbour hopes that Arg can fight their way back in fashion then but how wrong I was. 4-0 drubbing..heartbroken! What am I gonna do with my Arg scarf and Jersey???
Tong was feeling slightly better after a nap and some hot tea. We headed for Long street once again for use some internet and then back to the same pub to catch Paraguay-Spain Quarterfinals. Tong being blissfully attached had to fulfill his responsibility as a considerate and thoughtful partner, by giving talktime to his precious other half. I wandered about first and then headed into the pub to grab a good seat for the match. He turned up just after the match started. It was damn hilarious how he tried to catch my attention! Frantically waving and gesturing outside the pub cause he couldn't get in. I only realised when someone signalled to me that he was outside. In the end Tong managed to come in we were bent on supporting Spain from then on since there was no more Arg. As expected, Spain triumphed and everyone headed home happy.
Good Day!
