Made it to Cocoa Beach, FL after quite the airport debacle. It turned out that we had an airplane malfunction before everyone boarded so they swapped the plane out for another one. This new plane, brilliantly enough, was smaller than the original plane so it was announced over the gate announcement that everyone would need to re-check back in at the gate and that not everyone would be guaranteed a seat because they overbooked the flight. I mean, airports fascinate me in that way that they can screw with people's plans like that. Luckily enough, I was able to reserve my spot (although I did think about volunteering my seat for a free round trip later down the road but opted against it since I already had plans).
So I arrived yesterday on time. We previously arranged for me to rent a car and pick up our friend Diana when she landed so I had a couple hours to kill. I went on a pseudo joyride from the airport towards downtown Orlando just to scope things out. Drove past Universal Studios and all the other tourisy hotspots but wasn't too impressed. I am usually not crazy about those places to begin with so I'm thankful that Michelle and I chose to go to Miami instead of there after the cruise. I found this spot called La Hacienda and indulged in 2-for-1 coronas and a Cuban sandwich. The Cuban is a sandwich with ham & sliced pork topped with Salsa Rosa sauce. The waitress put the sauce in front of me and stared at me. I thought she was going to take the sandwich from me if I didn't put the sauce on so I humored her...I'm glad I did because it was quite tasty.
After that, I picked up Diana and we drove due east towards Cocoa Beach. We met up with Kris and Laura who had been enjoying the free happy hour the hotel offers (I was given three Heinekens immediately in order to catch up). We then ventured over to this Irish Pub across the street and proceeded to play free pool, darts and drank Guinesses to our heart's desire.
It is just beautiful here this morning. The photo above is right out the balcony of our hotel room right before sunrise. I'm hanging out in my shorts (haha northern suckers....wink) and taking in the fresh ocean breeze. I didn't sleep much in anticipation for the day to come. We don't really have plans yet but I'm sure it involves the beach in some effect. The Houston Astros are in spring training nearby so we may head over to Kissimmee to check it out. Everyone else arrives later today and I get to play chauffer :) Good times good times. This may be the last post until after the cruise but I intend to chronicle everything offline and then put several posts up when we get back.
