2/18/2011 - We woke up to another beautiful day. Michelle and I got ready and headed down to the Lido deck to get some breakfast. Our room only one floor above the deck where the food and drinks were being served and was quite convenient to reach. The food was served buffet style so we loaded up on fruits, eggs, toast and OJ (to name a few). We had breakfast with Erik and Sarah and followed the meal with the thickest Bloody Mary's imaginable. After taking some time to walk around the ship and explore, we reached Nassau. We had a great view of the approach from the very top of the ship. The waters were sky blue and the beaches were littered with people and good times. Senor Frogs was the first noticeable building we saw other than Atlantis Resort but that could be seen from out at sea considering it is the biggest resort on the island.
The sun was out in full board so a group of us (myself, Michelle, Kim, Laura, Erik, Sarah, Rob and Kelsey) decided to hit up the beach first thing while the others went to Senor Frogs. We exited the boat and found a shuttle which was heading over to Paradise Island where Atlantis is located. The shuttle ride only took about 15 minutes and took us through some of the more undesirable areas of the Bahamas…lots of run-down buildings and trash in the streets. We arrived at Paradise Island and headed down to the beach. The swimming was way too good to pass up so Erik and I ran full board into the waves. After a good plunge, we joined the rest of our party which had already laid out their towels and were soaking in the sun. It was quite relaxing other than the vendors constantly coming over and advertising their goods, be it Hair Braiding or getting "Hammer Time" with their 6-for-1 coconut drink concoction for $20.We passed on those drinks with fear of going blind after one drink. After the beach, we explored Atlantis Resort. The architecture on the inside and outside was amazing and really attracted a lot of interest from the whole group. There were lots of ocean-themed stone pillars and marble floors. We also found a restaurant which featured an aquarium which was about half the room and went from the floor to the ceiling. The idea of eating in such a place was really enticing but it was only available to people staying at the resort. Even if the food was terrible, it probably would have been the highlight of the Nassau trip.
With food on our minds, Erik, Sarah, Michelle and I took the shuttle back towards the ship (which took twice as long to get back, oddly enough) and found a place which served the island delicacy, Conch Fritters, called "Conch Fritters Bar and Grill". The conch fritters were quite delicious. Sarah was so curious about the conch before the fritters had arrived that she boldly ordered the Conch Burger on a whim. Needlesstosay, she was handsomely rewarded for her daring effort.
With the sun setting, we went back onto the ship and got showered and dressed for our elegantly-dressed dinner. Kris had learned of a Captain's Free Booze Happy Hour which started at 7pm and went until dinner so we checked that out for a couple pre-dinner drinks. The wine and mixed drinks flowed freely until the dinner was upon us. A shirt/tie/blazer for the fellas and dresses for the lovely ladies were required. The menu consisted of lobster tails and prime rib, just to name a couple items. The dinner was phenomenal. With our stomachs full, it was time to continue our night and we ventured out to party. The girls went to the club and the guys hung back at the bar. It was basically a high school prom but with booze. However, the night ended abruptly as the sun and food had taken its toll. We retired at midnight.
