This tour deserves its own blog as it was a special! Roll up 8.30am, the royal mile, the Haggis office and for an Aussie it is FREEZING! After about 10 minutes of waiting our kilt wearing tour guide 'Andy C' makes a shout out for Bus number 4 and our crew heads towards our yellow 'wild and sexy' coach.I pulled up a seat next to young Diego Caldarola from Brizzy. This was the guy to sit next to....total history nut, I learnt more history from him in 3 days than what i got out of 5 years at high school. Next person to crack a serious mention has to be Andy C, this is a guy who can drive a bus, commentate the tour and make consistent jokes about sex all at the same time. A true talent.
As we rolled onto the Wallace Monument I ran into Ian St Jack, at first glance I thought 'why is this guy looking at me weird' at a second glance I realised he was at our hostelat Munich and partied with us at Oktoberfest for about 3 days. Europe really isn't that big..... Pushing forward we stopped for lunch at pub (I can't remember where) and munched on some venison and drank local brew. This was my intro to the terrible twosome, Courtney and Tessa. These two South Africans may have been a tad tired from an overnight bus ride you could see they had fire in their eyes and pink ear muffs on their heads. On the second day they really came into form with a nights sleep under their belts.
Next Major Stop the infamous 'Sexy Ken' showed us how the Scots used to live back in the day. Including a kilt wearing demo with a male and female volunteer from the crowd. Nice work Jaime, Alex...you could have worn your A-team Jocks...
After an hour of Sexy Ken's best we headed to our hostel in Fort Augustus. AWESOME Hostel. One of the best I've stayed in all trip. Morag's Lodge gets the big tick....We had a haggis feed and then the girls behind the bar fired up a massive quiz night. Without going into too much detail, lets just say - our team won, Ange can't hold a glass of water to save herself, I can dance better than Jaime and NOBODY should have to see me walking around in nothing but a kilt. Props to Aly too....she stayed up drinking with the boys the longest.
The next morning we were out at 8.45. Ian and I tested the organic beer to see if it was hangover proof and it seemed to have worked well. We were off to the Isle of Sky. It's pretty hard to describe scenery in a blog so I'll just say this part of Scotland is AMAZING. Definitely get up here for a look if you can. It's another one of those places where the photos just don't do it justice. After a day of Driving, photo taking, whisky drinking, bakery going, hugging at a gate for good luck and a bit of guitar playing we arrived at the lodge on the Isle of Sky. Again this place was wicked, good rooms and a cool bar. The team put in a solid effort drinking and ripping up the D-Floor from about 6pm till a 1am close. I think Alan and I gave the bar its biggest work out in the last hour. Andy even had to tell Jaime and Aly off for running around like school kids at the end of the night...I tried to tell em to behave but they wouldn't listen. Every one bailed out after that but the lads decided to give Davy and Deigo's bottles of whisky a nudge. This lead to me snoring like a trooper (apparently).
Day 3...there were hangovers. Well I had one anyone. Diego and Davy did a sensational job of cooking up some Ham and Cheese toasties in the morning but the windy roads kept me pretty seedy until about lunch time. Again we soaked up more Scenery before feeding a highland cow. (video coming to facebook) then all roads pointed back to Edinburgh. We got in around 5.30 and most of the crew made an appearance at Shakespeare's for a few beers and a feed. Under the influence of a team of Kiwi's I also ended up seeing Shape Shifter for the first time later that night. AWESOME. Lets just say the Isle of Sky tour had awesome scenery, a legendary tour guide and a sensational crew. Not a munter in sight.....
