So, day 8... Already a whole week away and a whole week married... so far so good!! We very sadly had to say goodbye to fabulous San Sebastian which we enjoyed very much, largely thanks to Sara, our host and expert tour guide.

After a quick debate over which route to take, sense prevailed and we went for the autoroute (the alternative being a 7.5 hour journey through the pyrenees). The upside of this was that we could pop in to Biarritz for lunch. As luck would have it, the dark clouds cleared just as we arrived and we had amazing sunshine whilst we ate our sandwiches on the beach.

Back to the car for 3 and a half hours of autoroute punctuated by dramatic mountain vistas and angry looking clouds. Still, we risked keeping the top down for most of it. Style over practicality... Love it!

Eventually got to the narrow roads of Carcassonne and found our beautiful apartment (courtesy of Lucy, Kate C, Kate R, Zora, Roz, Cat, Shank & Laura - thanks girls). Stunning c17 building, much of it original, massive apartment, very stylishly furnished with a nice little kitchen too - just perfect for us.

Borrowed a stack of DVDs from the owner, rustled up some grub, cracked open a bottle of Anjou Villages that we had picked up in the Loire valley and settled in for the night
