Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
So after the big storm of last night, and the late arrival at camp, we set about making plans for today. There was no evidence of the near-on monsoon weather from the night before. We decided we would go to the zoo, it was lovely day, great for a walk around. Plus it was only about 20 minutes drive to get there. We got there and the place was heaving, on a Thursday! We had to park in the overspill car park across the road and walk across. We got into the zoo and it was only $8 each, we stayed there for hours. We saw rhinos, giraffes and the bears were asleep in the shade out of the sun. The highlight of the day had to be the baby elephant that went for a swim because he was too hot. He was spraying himself with water for ages and then he ran down the small waterfall into the pool. He looked so happy. Marie had a slush puppy and didn't really like it, and after that we went to see the gorillas, and they were all sat near the viewing glass and playing around. Plus when we saw the jaguar it was feeding time so we saw him carrying a leg of meat around. We ate burger and chips in the restaurant and we got some souvenir cups, which will be a nightmare to take back home, but they were part of the meal, so would be rude not to. After the food, we left the zoo and headed to Arcadia, which is where the largest soda bottle in the world is located. Plus the largest collection of fizzy drinks I've ever seen, all in retro soda bottles, it was crazy how big it was. That evening, Marie had a subway and I had McDonald's for a quick nibble before returning to camp later on. Then we went to sleep, Dallas tomorrow.
