Well here we are in Hungary! Arrived yesterday after a 7 hour train ride. Found the hostel with few problems (even though the language here is really scary.. supposedly one of the hardest to learn). The hostel, Tiger Tim's, is absolutely fantastic. The best hostel I've been to so far. Tim is an awesome Irish guy who runs and lives in the hostel. The living spaces he shares with us, and the company is great.
Took it easy last night (think I finally figured out my allergies!) watching movies with other people at the hostel. Today, a few of us woke up and headed out for a free tour around the city. Tons of (sad) history, it was a great tour that ended with a great Hungarian meal.. it was essentially meat, paprika, onions, and more paprika. It really was fantastic, think I'll be bringing some of their famous paprika home!
It's taking me some time to adjust to the currency system.. 300 forint are equal to about 1 euro (about $1.30).. so that 20 euro you exchanged turns into several thousand forint. Constantly have to remind yourself that 300 forint for a beer (yes.. for real) is only about one euro. Went to the Grand Market to explore a bit.. food and pretty much every other tourist thing you could think of is there, and bustling with people (mostly Hungarians).
Due to a national holiday tomorrow, all the museums are free! Hooray! I also plan on making a trip to one of the world famous thermal baths tomorrow, so excited!! So far though, all is well in this fantastic new city!!
