We filled up the tank of the Sunny one last time and once again we joined the Southern Scenic Route, this time back towards our start point, Queenstown. This section was the shotest out of all of them and it only took about 3 hours to arrive back in Queenstown and with this arrival meant the end of the Southern Scenic Route, which we had driven in its fullness.
We used the car to drop our bags back off at the Black Sheep (the hostel we stayed at before) and then we just had to refill the tank and drop it off back at the Jucy depot, which was at Queenstown airport.
It was lucky we had dropped off all our bags (we have a few of them) as unlike when you pick the car up, you do not get a free shuttle service back into town. Therefore we had to get the bus, but first we had to drop the car off. We drove round various parts of the airport and in circles a couple of times, actually this proved to the be the trickiest part of the entire trip. We finally worked out where to go and locked the Nissan up for the last time. Although the gear box was shocking and neither of us would chose an automatic over a manual car, it had been fun and the car turned out to be a bit of a character.
We were pointed in the direction of the bus stop by a member of Jucy staff and headed back into town. As we couldn't check into our room until 3:00pm, this meant we had roughly three hours to kill, so went for a wander round town.
Kiwi's are pretty big on their pies out here, which Belle was yet to experience and with our time in New Zealand coming to an end, we had to do something about this and went and got one. Eat a pie in New Zealand, tick.
After walking round town for a hour or so and going in various different shops, mainly clothes ones, like the second Country Road bag, the temptation was too great for Belle to buy something. I say something, she went on a mini shopping spree, which made her happier than a kid at christmas. To be honest I am suprised that she managed to hold out this long before finally crumbling.
It was with several carrier bags that we made our way back to the Black Sheep as it was now gone three, which meant we could get into our room. The rest of the afternoon was spent at the hostel, with Belle going through her backpack to make room for the new clothes and me watching some TV.
That evening we had decided that we would make a return to the mighty Ferg Burger for one last time. We again decided to stroll down late to try and avoid most of the queue's. This time we swung past the lake front to catch the last of the sun set behind the mountains. It was again 9:30 by the time we got to Ferg Burger and walking there it was still day light, a strange feeling in November.
This time round Belle had decided on a 'Cockadoodle Oink' (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, red onion and tomato relish) and I took on 'Big Al' (2 burgers, bacon, cheese, 2 eggs, beetroot, lettuce, tomato, red onion, relish and aioli). There were no seats this time at Ferg so we had to take our dinner back to the hostel. We sat on the floor, with a whole lot of food out in front of us. Belle's burger was big enough but the 'Big Al' was something different. The same size in diameter as Belle's but the wieght of it was silly, considering what it was, a burger.
We munched our way through our feast, apologising to our bodies in the process. Both very very full we did nothing else with our evening, plus it was probably about half ten by the time we had finished eating. We were both so full that I had to take the bin out of our room (which had the empty burger wrappers in) as the smell was making us feel a little bit ill. Ferg burger the reunion, complete.
We both like Queenstown and it was nice to go back there for another night, the downside was that we were only there for that night and the next day we were making our way up to Kaikoura, which is on the North East coast of the South Island, which meant a long old day awaited us.
