Hi everyone!
Sorry its been a while, we didn't go into Greytown on Tuesday as we were doing something else - will explain later. We are still having a fantastic time here, although we will be half glad to leave! We have only told you the good points and the bad ones are beginning to get too much! Firstly, Dawn is a bit of a nutter. We swear she's a schizophrenic or something because she goes from nice to nasty in like 60 seconds! lol. Secondly, one of their dogs (Dingbat) is dying of cancer and has oozing sores on his chest - ewww! He has also just started a c ourse of antibiotics and so vomits every 30 mins or so... and licks it back up! The third point is that all the cutlery adn dishes etc are not properly washed. The dogs lick them clean, then they are rinsed with hot water and left to dry! nice! Anyway, enough of our moaning, here's what we've been up to the last week or so...
Friday afternoon's Zulu party was AMAZING!! Oh my god! It was so strange being the only white people amongst about 200! I t was pitch black except for the fire by the time it livened up and the music was ridiculously loud - but cool! Dinner was lovely - chunks of freshly slaughtered cow just thrown on the the fire and cooked to perfection! It was like eating steak off the bone!! Later on some girls about our age asked Bekki to come dance with them - they were really nice and thrilled that we were from England!
The weekend was pretty slow - it was incredibly hot so we did monkey/household chores and relaxed a bit. We did ;go for a nice walk up a huge hill on Sunday though - only to discover it was crawling with ants!
We went to Ingome Primary School on Monday - what an eye-opener! There are about 4 crappy classrooms and a little hut for a pre-school - toilets consist of a rubbish dump near the pre-school! Me and Dan had a great time teaching the grade 1 class 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' and the 'Okey-Kokey' (which they loved!). The kids are so amazed with us; we spent most of the morning with them stroking us to see if the white comes off! We also went to see the pre-school class and scared a yo ung girl by being white! Poor thing! We did some reading for them and they taught us some Zulu songs and dancing! When we left, the kids chased the landrover out of the gates and shouted at us to come back tomorrow! Bless!
Tuesday was fantastic - but tiring! We went on a bush walk/foot safari at Bambatha, left at 8 am and got back and 2pm! It was a stupidly hot day and the walk back was uphill! But definately worth it! We saw wild giraffe and h uge spiders and a chameleon! Ooh, and bless buck! Plus we tried the fruit of a cactus plant, was quite tasty actually!
Sorry this blog is short and there are no photos but we had to be quick. We will HOPEFULLY be on the internet again on Monday so will give more details etc. then reply to messages!
Missing you all loads!
Bekki and Dan (aka Ngungubane and Sambane!)
