Today started with an early breakfast and a packed lunch at 7am. The few of us that had paid the extra then headed down to the skydiving place down the road. I was looking really forward to this part of the trip. A chance to jump out of a helicopter for a 45 second free fall before gliding to the bottom over the Swiss Alps!
Unfortunately, the weather was too bad to go which was really unlucky. We waited around for it to clear before deciding to head up the mountain on the train. Jung Frau is what they call the 'Top of Europe' it is roughly 3.5 km above sea level or 13500 feet.
They have a souvenir shop up there, restaurants, an ice cave and also the number 1 reason I wanted to go... Snow!
The train takes roughly one and a half hours from Lauterbrunnen station and is extremely steep.
We got up there, had a play in the snow, built a snowman and took photos on the highest point you can get to in Europe. We then decided to go snow tubing in the snow activities area. It was awesome fun and not really as cold as I had imagined. Most of us rocked out there in T-shirts and jeans and you could feel the sun burning your face. You had to wear sunnies because of the glare, or you couldn't see anything. Hayden had a go at snowboarding while Tess, Christine and I stuck to tubing. If we had more time I would definitely have had a crack at snowboarding but it was getting late. Christine gave her best shot at making a snow angel although the rest of us weren't to keen on getting too wet.
We headed back inside, sent a few postcards and bought souvenirs before catching the Jung Frau train back to Lauterbrunnen.
Tess and I headed out for coffee while Christine and Hayden headed back to change. We went to a cute little Swiss style cafe for soup, pies and hot chocolate to warm us up!
We went back to camp for a few beers before heading in for a Swiss dinner and apple strudel for desert.
I was fairly tired by this point but Christine and Tess talked me into coming to the pub where I met a very cute English Mountaineer. He gets paid to climb mountains like Jung Frau all over the world and teach other people to do it! He even offered to teach me how to climb if I had time when I came back to London. Got his number anyway, so will see what time I've got when I get back there.
Rolled into bed once again at about 2am! Bound for Italy tomorrow!
