i finally left Caye Caulker - with some regret, as i had such a lovely time there and the locals were so nice, but i need to get my skates on. Left on the early water taxis at 8am, as i was rushing to catch the boat a local stopped me and said i had a ticket and a fine. It was far to early for this (hungover) and i was not impressed so i argued a ticket fro what?! the guy laughed and said speeding!! ha ha very funy, but then the towns motto is 'go slow' got the boat on time and said farewell to the boys - they were going totally diff way.
Arrived in Belize city and grabbed a taxis to the bus station where i JUST caught the next bus to Orange Grove. was feeling a bit delicate (hungover & had lost my safety net of 7 big irish lads!) and it didnt help that i was the only female on a packed chicken bus (local transport - called a chicken bus as you can take literally anything on them!) and the only white person. so was feeling quite intimidated, but just put ipod on and settled down for a snooze. i was woken by an armed policeman shaking me. MAJOR PANIC, but he was just 'kindly' telling me that my neck would be sore if i slept that way!! cheers mate. He was on the bus checking for illegal mexican immigrants. rest of the jouney went well and arrived in Orange Grove.
checked into local hotel and shame they only had double rooms with aircon and sky tv available. so a night of home comforts for me. yay. booked my tour to Lamanai for the next morning.
