travelled to Placencia today on the basis that my guide book siad that a boat goes from there to Honduras. Had to get up at 7am!! and got the bus to Belmopan to get the connecting bus to placencia. The bus to Belmopan only took 1 hr but i was soooo cramped i was squished into a seat with my knees up by my ears and my (heavy) pack on my lap. after about 2 mins i had 2 dead legs and nothing i could do about it as there were so many people on the bus.
theres no limit over here as to how many people you can cram on a bus and what luggage they have. one woman had a 5ft electric fan with her! random. was very relieved to change, the bus to placencia took 4 LONG hours - but i had a seat and feeling in both my legs so not too bad. was quite hot, sweaty and grumpy when i arrived tho and i think a local took pity on me and asked where i was staying. and 'get in' he gave me a lift - he had his 3 young kids in the car so i reasoned it was fine. 5 mins later i was dropped right at the door of my cabana's and have the cutest little room right on the beach.
it looks like something out of little house on the prairie but with sand, hammocks and mozzie nets. very happy. after my trauma of travelling i'm now going to bum around on the beach and try and convince my skin that it really does NOT want to keep peeling! xx
