Greetings from Melbourne!
It's the morning of my last day staying in the Nunnery hostel and I'll be very sad to leave- they won me over with a free bbq and wine on the first evening! The rooftop is a perfect place to watch the sunrise for those who are not quite adjusted to the time-zone yet!
Met up with my old friend Holly on the first day (feeling a little worse for wear after 36 hours travelling) but nothing a walk on the beach and a fruity cider couldn't fix. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of 2 small penguins hiding under the rocks on the beach which was slightly surreal not to see them in snow!
Spent Saturday trying to figure out Aussie food in the supermarket (as appealing as vegemite for breakfast, lunch and dinner is) trying not to spend all my money (everything is crazy expensive even by english standards)and then headed down to a free festival in town with live music, fairground rides and a waterskiing competition.
Yesterday I took a day tour along the Great Ocean Road and saw some spectacular sights including the beachs which inspired the creation of the surfing companys Ripcurl and Billabong, wonderful cliffs and bays and many many koalas asleep in trees!
Lovely lunch by a lighthouse serenaded by an old fisherman whose musical skills could rival even the worst of the Norwich buskers.
Have met some awesome people (with the same desire to get as many ridiculous photos as me) and not so awesome people (crazy old english lady in my dorm and those whose sole purpose of travelling seems to be getting as drunk as possible) but am looking forward to meeting many more!
Off to Sydney tomorrow so long as the train tracks aren't flooded like the rest of Aus seems to be!
Bye for now x
