Penang is a much more cultural and heritage place to see, compared to the beaches of Krabi & the hecticness of Bankgok we've been used to!! But it was a lovely place to visit.
We arrived late Thursday evening, unpacked my ridiculously heavy bag & then headed out for dinner with the girls, ended up at Red Garden food court where i had the most AMAZING duck and noodles.. beats the local chinese at home any day! But have to say that we had a waffle and ice cream after (not so malaysian!).
Had a full City tour the next morning, complete with our own guide kelvin! Headed around all the major attractions of the city, with the first stop being fort cornwallis, a british man who settled here many many years ago! Then we went to the harbour area where people live with houses on stilts, but they weren't living in poor standards.. most had flat screenns tv's!! Haha :) Went to another temple, which had all the buddhas of the year's people were born (Monkey, rat, horse etc....) Me & Charlotte discovered we were the year of the monkey! (1992) I took a photo of the chinese astrology chart to work out all my families!
We then headed to another temple higher up in the hills, had around 100 turtles in this pond inside (meant to bring good luck!) and we also discovered this tree with 100's of ribbons on! So we worked out what it actually was, and you can buy these ribbons with different messages on (i bought happiness, together forever & family to be safe & healthy) and then you can write your name on the back with a little message & just stick it on this tree! So that was quite nice to do that :) lets see if it works!
We left the tour and headed up Penang Hill on the superfast train, 7000m above sea leavel! Got some great view shots from up there, could even see the rain clouds rolling over the hills! And then the downpour strated... haha. Got a cute little henna tattoo on my leg/ankle! Tried to fool Mike on skype thinking it was real.. but he was having none of it! Met this group of malaysian school kids on a school trip who were absolutely amazed by me (due to being Blonde and pale haha!) and no joke, all of them shoved their cameras to the teacher and there me & charlott were having our photo taken with them like 20 timeS!! I didnt know what the hell was going on! The teacher said it was because they think i am beautiful so as you do, i didnt complain haha! But i get a few funny looks from a lot of the locals cause i look so different, the tour guide said if he would tell anyone i was taylor swift they would believe it paha!!
So we had our last meal in Penang, Teriaki chicken time!! Was amazing. Then we watched a One Night in Bangkok show.. bloody awful!! So i left and ended up skyping my sister which was so nice to see her :)
Anyway, i've rambled enough!! We've arrived up the Cameron Highlands so looking forward to cooler temperatures and lots of scones & jam :) xxx
