Day 4:
Caught the rer train to chateau versaille. Took about half an hour and only cost €3.20 each, each way.
Stopped at McCafe for coffee and croissants. Then walked up the street to the castle. It was so massive. I didn't really expect that and the front gates and rooftop were covered in opulent gold. Took about half an hour to queue up for entry. Mum was so excited, this was her Eiffel tower moment.
The castle was amazing. We videoed so much of it and took heaps of photos to remind mum of all the detail. She got a bit emotional seeing it all, having waited so long to get there. The main hallway was stunning ... Lined with crystal and gold chandeleirs and beautiful candelabras. Reminded me of the opera house. Then we got into Marie antoinettes bedroom. Wow! It was beautiful. Probably the most popular room in the house.
We stopped for morning tea in the gorgeous cafe called angelinas. Had chocolate raspberry tart and mum had an amazing lemon cheesecake, and we both had cafe au lait. Loving the coffee today.
Had a look thru the giftshop and mum bought a book on the castle.
Then I walked thru the gardens and down to the grand lake where people could hire little row boats and go out in the lake. Bought a panini for lunch and wandered back to the train station.
So tired this afternoon. We've walked so much for the last few days. Tomorrow we head down to Athens.
