Happy birthday TIM! its the first morning in florence and everyones so right, the light is different here, which my dad would love. from our windows the sun rises directly over santa croce, which i guess is a pretty good religious metaphor. it was not hard to fall asleep to all of the street noise last night like i thought it would be...i guess maybe it lulled me to sleep. for some reason it is nearly impossible for me to sleep in here. im always the first awake and i feel like im stealing all of the golden hours. if i look out my bedroom window i can see the towers from the palazzo vecchio and the uffizzi which are about 2 blocks directly even with our apartment.

just finished with our academic orientation at LDM (lorenzo de medici...our school) and i have to wait till 4 to take the placement exam. there is only one other person taking the exam and he only has to place into intermediate. ive tried to study but its a slow and frustrating process. im preparing myself to beg shamelessly to get into the class i need. this morning we took a walking tour of florence that started at piazza duomo and then to piazza della signoria (by my apt.) then past the uffizzi, to the ponte vecchio, on to the pitti palace and then back around and back to the arno to the ferragamo store and palazzo strozzi and the piazza della repubblica and then back past the duomo on to piazza san marco. tomorrow we are taking a day trip to siena and through the tuscan country side...we also went to the central market today which is the huge indoor grocery market. it looks kind of like a big train station and has a million different vendors and foods. i look forward to shopping there (and in the leather markets outside)!

sitting on our couch watching the italian version of jeopardy/bingo/tictacto?? we just got back from a big dinner at il bargello. all of the roomates but megan went. me and jane split a wonderful pizza margherita. il bargello is on the piazza della signoria (by the uffizzi) and we will probably never show our faces there again because the waiter yelled at us. sooooo the placement test was really really hard and then i had an oral interview. i did pretty terrible, but i talked them into putting me in the class i need. i am going to have to work SOOOO hard to not fail this class. i am in rosella nuccis class from 9-12 40 m-f at Via Faenza 43, aula E. after that terrible exam i took off for my apartment and just kept walking until i knew where i was. well time for bed, so i can be up for our trip to siena in the morning!
