Dolphin Day.
Today we have been
back in the resort of princess cays on the island of Eleuthera in the
Bahamas. It has been a day for me to
indulge in my favourite pass-time of replicating a dolphin. I have been in the water pretty much all
day. David joined me initially and we
both enjoyed the warm water and gentle waves before the masses from the ship
arrived. (we got off the ship quite
early). There isn't a great deal more to
the resort than beach, beach shops and sea.
After Dave had his fill of the water, we found the outdoor BBQ grill and
enjoyed some food, again, before the masses arrived. Then, after eating, we walked down the beach
a little way and found a quieter area with what looked like a nice place for me
to swim. I hired a snorkel mask for the
day and I was not disappointed. Mum, you
won't like this one bit….when I put my head under to take a look around there
were fish everywhere. Every direction I
looked in there was sea life of every colour and size imaginable. I had inadvertently stumbled upon a large
area of coral reef. The water was not
deep at all but the coral is delicate and the surrounding rocks….well,
rocky. I managed to float myself out on
my tummy and scan the coral as I went deeper.
I saw electric blue coloured fish, bright yellow fish, fish which looked
like parrots and the tiniest teeniest little fish which swam in and out between
my fingers and toes. At one point I
found a large rock just a foot below me and, swimming around the rock, was the
largest fish I saw today. Reckon that he
must have been about 18 -20 inches in length and he had a silver body and a
bright yellow head. I tried to reach out
and touch him but he swam around the rock the other way. I swam around the rock too, trying to catch
up with him and we had a little game of fish chase right there on the coral
reef. He could have swum off completely
but he didn’t….he stayed just outside of my touching range the whole time and
swam around and around the rock.
I could have stayed
swimming with the fish for hours and hours but I could feel my shoulders
burning from the sun. Dave was relaxing
on a sun lounger in the shade of a palm tree and so I dragged myself from the
water and headed back up to him. We took
a look through the shops on the resort but they were all overpriced and not
really selling our kind of thing. Today
was the day to experience the resort itself because we saw the lovely island,
the more genuine side of the island, last week.
I think we both enjoyed ourselves a lot.
Dave was surprised at just how tired he felt after a day lazing on the
beach!
Once we were back on
the ship we watched the American football game by the pool. (I was in the water of course). It was, on
the whole, a very relaxing non energetic day!
Now we are sitting on the balcony enjoying a lager having just finished
the evening trivia where we performed badly by our standards. Dave did well and
got all the colours on the Chilean flag correct. We won't mention the scrabble question and
how many points is K worth…….
Right now, we are
actually hiding out in our stateroom until all the children have gone to
bed. There are noticeably many more
children on this leg….it has made us think that, in future, we will book a
genuine 14 night (at least) cruise and not two one week cruises squished into
one. Parents find it a lot harder to
remove their children from school for 2 weeks.
Most of the kids have been ok…some excellent. But some have been horrible. The one child who dragged the "floor
wet" cone/sign through the buffet bar with her mother screaming "STOP
THAT, DON'T DO THAT! BAYLEEEEE BAYLEEEEEEEE" yeah….she was horrid. Her mother was pretty useless too. Screeching at your child when they are
running amok in a restaurant is, I think, pretty ineffective. Put your giant plate of 30 cookies down, Pick
the bratling up….take the floor wet sign (which was as large as the child) off
of her and sit her down somewhere else.
Or…better yet, and hear me out here, how about NOT bringing a child not
old enough to know how to behave on a cruise?
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay great idea! Give me an award!
So anyway, we think
the kids will be in bed soon then Dave and I can venture down for some food in
a more tranquil setting. I won't say the
kids on board are ruining it because that is not at all true. It is in fact the first time ever we have
even noticed kids on board so it must be more to do with the length and
structure of the cruise. Most here have
been good as gold. It is just the odd
one which makes it to the blog!
Tomorrow is an
"at sea day" and then we have three stops on the trot. Looking forward to them all! The weather is gorgeous and is set to stay
nice for the rest of the week we hope.
Really hot and sunny. Hope
everyone is okay! Can't believe it is
getting close to Christmas.

Mum Stop chasing the wildlife ! Now then, I am concerned that these blogs are all about you, Dave and your Trivia mates. What has Little Little been doing ? Bit concerned about the day at sea comment following on from our scathing remarks about some of the children. Please Karen don't throw them over ! All our presents wrapped. The tree is up with the gorilla sitting proudly in his usual spot on top of the tree. Its wet, windy and cold but please don't gloat.
Gary Another fine chapter in a wonderful book.
