Sunny sea day.
I woke up early
today and pulled back the black out curtains in our cabin. YAAAAAAAAAAAAY SUNNY!! A few fluffy white clouds on a gorgeous blue
sky and equally gorgeous calm blue seas.
I wanted to go swimming right away but then I remembered about the small
matter of the early risers trivia and then actually eating something.
Billy (the annoying
American non-know-it-all) joined her husband and the rest of our team for the
quiz. We took no chances this time and
did not even give her a pencil to scribble with. We did quite well but, again, only came
second. Booooo! On one of the our answers Billy looked it
over, shook her head and said :-" well, that would be lovely if it were
correct…." I retorted "good
job it is correct then" she tutted,
picked up her book and started to read!
The question was……
"what sport
were women first invited to play when they were finally allowed in the
Olympics?" there was also a bonus point if we could name the year… well we
KNEW the answer was Tennis in 1900….Billy just shook her head derisively and,
when the answer was actually read out, she didn't react at all! Her husband was excellent again though. Goodness knows what he sees in her. She really is the most annoying person I have
ever met. Anyway, on to the next part
of the day…
I spent much of my
time in the various pools on board and managed to catch a LOT of sun. Dave said that when he was watching me from
the side of the pool, I looked very very dark skinned. I love the water so much I must surely have
been a dolphin in a previous life. Dave
came into the adults only pool later and we decided it would be fun to have a
running-only race across the pool. This
is fun for Dave too because the pool is a constant depth and we can both touch
the bottom. He cheated horribly…first by
attempting to drown me as I reached the edge and then, on the second race, he said "go!" and I rushed off
trying my hardest whilst Dave didn't move and then proclaimed himself the
winner. I queried this of course and
Dave explained that the race distance was merely a foot in front of the start
point and then back…not a length and back as I had expected.
Now for the most
exciting part of our day. Yes we are
trivia junkies! We went down for the
afternoon trivia and were joined, as usual, by Carey and Kelly our lovely
American friends. We were also then
joined by two excellent ladies from England, Julie and Julia. So on our team is Kelly, Carey, Karen,
Julie, Julia and…er David. Apart from the latter, it is a bit of a
mouthful! There was a pretty horrible
moment just before the start….we are only allowed six on a team and, just a few
minutes before we commenced, Billy's husband wandered into the room waving and
smiling….uh oh…. I got up right away to try and explain that we really thought
he wasn’t coming…I even offered to sit out so he could join the team. He said it was fine but he didn’t join
another team, he just left! We all felt
a bit bad but, as he is one of the many Americans not staying for a second
week, we didn't worry too much.
Now…Julie and Julia are very funny ladies and fit in with our team
extremely well. We will be losing Carey
and Kelly tomorrow too (booooooooooooo) so it will be nice to have the two
Brits on our team poimenantly (sic) Anyway, I digress…. The quiz was a little
different today. It was called 12 to 1
and this meant that the first question had 12 answers the second 11, the third
10 etc etc etc until the final question which had one answer. We did really well! I won't tell you all the questions because
you will all die of boredom but, to give you a taster, question one was name all the countries in
the world beginning with N. We got 12/12
and David was probably the only person in the room who got Nauru. Good skills!
We also managed to name all the deadly sins as well as all the weapons
in a game of cluedo. You want to know
how we did right? WE WON!!! We dropped a few points at the end on a
question about naming the three types of rock in the world (we got one) but we still won by one point. People must have wondered what was going on
if they were just wandering by and heard the shrill screaming and whooping
emitting from the six of us when we realised we were the winners. We were SO excited. The best bit about it was beating the team
that had beaten us into second place most of the cruise. They were still pouring over their question
and answer sheet long after everyone else had filtered out of the room. I think they took it badly. It probably didn’t help that Julia kept
poking her tongue out at them… :-D
So now, I am on the
balcony enjoying the warm breeze and watching the skies get darker. Dave is with me enjoying a beer. We will be arriving in Fort Lauderdale
tomorrow morning early and have an excursion planned….it is quite exciting
because we are going on one of those airboat things with the propellers and
taking a trip through the Everglades. I
am hoping to see a lot of alligators.
Little little wants to wrestle one or two. Will be a picture or two taken tomorrow.
Gary, thank you for
your comments about my writing. I would
need a very good editor to wipe out all the grammar mistakes I think!

Gary Well done with the quizzing. You'll probably be stronger next week when non-know-it-all is cast adrift. We look forward each day to our holiday blog fix. Bring on the second half.
