After a few hours sleep we woke, hurriedly packed in time for check out and then spent quite a few hours eating hangover food and drinking lots of water with our new found Australian friends Joel and Skye. Time to say goodbye to Lianne as well as Joel and Skye (who were heading to Naples) before heading to Florence.
This is one time in life where I started to believe there must be a god. Either that or we are the stars of the Truman show. We were having too good a time so someone pulled some strings to make things more 'interesting'
When we arrived in Florence it was grey (and we were in shorts, tourist tee-shirts and flip flops) we found our hostel and were split in to two rooms due to them being at full capacity. Not that it's much of an issue. Then went out to get something to eat and thought we had found a really nice little cafe on Piazza della Indepenzia, ordered our lasagne and then proceeded to eat it, despite the fact it as about as many different temperatures as a selection of spa pools (hot, warm, cold and near frozen). We were hungry. (And mums in case you're wondering we were absolutely fine - the Imodium remained untouched). By this time it was raining and we were still dressed for the high heat of Naples/Ischia/Rome.
We went back to a student tour place we had seen on the way to the hostel, hoping to do a night bike tour (including Gelato) but it was cancelled because of the weather. We should have taken the hint but we decided to just do it anyway on our own. We hired bikes and cycled a few blocks from the hostel before taking them straight to the hostel for fear of our lives. I must point out that the rain had not stopped - it had picked up. It may have been a few blocks but we were drenched. We drew a line under the day and accepted the wipeout...

We went for a quick sauna and steam, tried to ignore the fact a school had just checked in and walked for close to an hour, determined to find a nice restaurant with decent food and locals... Turns out Florence aren't that big on pizza, which we had decided we both wanted and set our hearts on. When we saw the 'pizzeria' sign we just couldn't wait any longer. We couldn't have stumbled across somewhere nicer. When the waitress asked if we were here for the pizza and cocktail 8 euros deal, quite frankly I could have kissed her. It was music to our ears and calories for our stomachs. And it was definitely in the top ten pizzas I've ever had. Hurrah!
