Summer Palace - what an amazing place... Spent almost four hours wandering around these spectacular gardens yesterday and was blessed with the most beautiful sunset. This is one place where u could easily just get lost in time, clear your head and just take in the beauty of it all. If I had more time here I would go back and explore some more.
But now it's time to leave Beijing for mongolia - early start to catch the train and then 2 days one night on the train. Should cross the border about 8pm (Sat) tonight. Weather forecast to greet us is a high of minus 15 and a low of minus 27 with a bit of snow thrown in if we are lucky. I think my backpack will be empty as I'll be wearing everything at once!
I must say though I am really looking forward to some down time on the train. An opportunity to sit back, relax, read a book an listen to some music. Has been pretty hectic since I left aus so am keen to start winding down.
Ventured onto the Beijing subway yesterday for the first time - what an experience! It was like a bloody mosh pit! The one weapon I did have though was my backpack so when I would turn around I would take out a couple of Chinese folk :-) I did have to get pushy at one point to barge my way off the train at my stop. Stopped in at supermarket to stock up on some supplies for the train and night market for some dinner and Chinese snacks to take across the border. Have discovered these really nice treats a bit like a home made muesli bar made from sunflower seeds so stocked up on them for the trip.
Will probably be a while till next post on here as not sure how common wifi will be in Mongolia...
