Met up with the group last night for our pre departure meeting - some interesting people, all Aussies except for my roomie Richard who's from NZed - how do I not manage to escape that country? All good though he seems like a good guy - a transport planning engineer.
4 of us headed out for Peking duck and a feast of other Chinese dishes - food was amazing and only cost us $10 each including drinks...
From there went to a live music bar called Mao's live house where we caught the tail end of a set by a Chinese punk rock band who were really quite good despite not knowing what they were singing! After that headed to the bars along the lake and got repeatedly harassed to go into lady bars, when our politeness ran out and we got more direct with saying no, we started being offered beer bars - apparently bars are defined by what they sell here! Was a very quiet night as noone was out so we wandered around to try and find some music and only found karaoke bars but let me tell you they take karaoke to the next level! One place was acoustic karaoke with a chick on guitar, keyboard (not at the same time) and backup vocals! The other had a full on idol stage with changing colored light screen at the rear of stage - quite the opportunity for aspiring Idols!
Off to summer palace and Olympic park today...
