Off Exploring
Well the trip is almost coming to an end. :( It gets harder and harder to go home. I just want to stay on vacation forever. I had scheduled our transportation for 2:45 since I figured we'd be tired of getting up early by now. It worked out okay but we're always up early so I wouldn't have minded leaving earlier so that we could explore San Jose. We ended up taking advantage of the good internet while in Jaco and just hung out at the condo until it was time to go. Last night we discovered Armando's in Jaco. I wish we had found it sooner. It was by far some of the best Italian food we have ever eaten. Definitely our favorite meal. If you're ever in Jaco go to Armando's.
I didn't take any Dramamine on the way to San Jose since I thought it would be a straight road and just 2 hours. Silly me. I should know by now that it's never a straight road in Costa Rica. I also made the mistake of sitting in the back of the shuttle since it was full. Another rookie mistake. I felt really nauseous. Luckily we made a stop only 30 minutes into the trip and I sat up front, which somewhat helped. The winding roads aren't necessarily so bad, though the ones on the way to La Fortuna did make me feel sick. If you get car sick always ask to sit in the front. No one ever minds, I'm sure they prefer that to people throwing up in their car. Anyways, there are some potholes on the roads but the ones we've been on aren't so bad. I think a part of what makes me feel so sick are the bad shocks on so many cars. They feel really bouncy. But I did make it to San Jose without throwing up, so that's good.
Sitting up front also gave me a terrifying perspective on traffic. It had never really scared me until we came back to San Jose. Watching the motorcycles weave in and out of traffic and watching the cars is somewhat terrifying. We did see two accidents today, the first I've seen since coming to Costa Rica. We also saw a somewhat flooded road which really backed things up. Luckily it was worse on the opposite side so we didn't have to sit in too much traffic (that would come later!). The two lanes on the other side were pretty much turned into a mini lake so the cars were having to get into a single line and drive down the center of the road.
The traffic coming into San Jose was horrendous. By far the worst traffic I have ever experienced. I learned my lesson...you can leave San Jose just fine but coming back is not a pleasant experience. Next time if we fly into San Jose maybe we'll fly out of a different airport...I'm thinking Panama City! I am already thinking about our next vacation to try to combat some of this almost post vacation depression I'm feeling. It's almost time to go back to real life. But not quite yet...tomorrow we have the coffee and chocolate tour I've been looking forward to. We'll get back at 2 so we'll use the remaining hours to explore San Jose a bit, something we haven't done at all yet.
Oh, one last thing. I know about all the different micro climates around here but it is interesting to experience it first hand. I think Jaco is about 2 hours away and it's so hot and humid and muggy there. Here in San Jose I'm freezing! Even Kyle is cold, which pretty much never happens.
