Hellloo!
What a great week it has been in Mendoza! After blogging last weekend its been another very busy week.
Last sunday night we went sunset horseriding which by the time we got going would have been more aptly described as night time riding as it was pitch black about twenty minutes into the ride! However, it was quite good fun horseriding over the foothills of the andes overlooking mendoza. For dinner they prepared a bbq with a lot of red wine! The bbq was slightly different this time as the just served thick cuts of meat with a small roll and there were some spreads and veg. It was fantastic and the best meat we´ve had sine being here! At the end we sat round a fire, overlooked mendoza at night seeing all the city lights and we shared a 800g steak on a fork as an after dinner treat! meat sweats!
Last monday we met up with emily´s brother and his friends in Menodza. It was a gairly chilled day as we began to plan our week! Tuesday we went on the wine tour in Maipu where you rent a bike and visit a lot of wineries and liquor places! Emily and I shared a tandem bike due to my insistance and it was great fun...however the seats were rock solid, the road was extremely bumpy and emily couldn´t see in front so it was an interesting ride that finshed with both of our bums absolutely killing! The wineries were great - we tried new wines, reservas, premium ranges and got tours of the vinyards. We also tried chocolate, a lot of liquors and olive oils. At midday, roughly an hour into our journey we also got a shot of 75% absinthe which on top of everything else and so early in the day didn´t really help with my bike driving skills! In the evening we went to a mexican restaurant and shared fajitas which came out on a huge wooden slab with around 12 sauces and a hot plate with beef, pork and chicken! was awesome!
Wednesday was a bit more chilled - we climed the cerro de gloria that gives views over mendoza before watching Man U smash AC Milan 4-0! We coooked later that evening for only the secod time and it ended up being me cookin as emily was on the phone. Needless to say it was an exquisite culinary experience...massive chunks of undercooked broccoli, with a plain tomato sauce and pasta...spoilt I think is the right term!
Thursday was the best day of the week and arguably the trip as went SKY DIVING!!! It was utterly amazing, exhilirating and nerve racking! we went up in the air one by one in a plane that was about 2metres long inside with one chair for the pilot and just the fllor for myself and the instructor to crouch on! We flew up to 9500 feet (3200m) when the instuctor casually opens the door and tells you with him attached behind you to step oit onto a ledge ouside the plane...holly s**t was what I was thinking! The wind is flying into your face and its hard to even keep your mouth closed as it becomes extremely dry! Next thing you know you have to bend your knees up so the instructor takes your weight and suddenly he jumps. Before you know it you´ve got your arms out wide looking down at the fasdt approaching ground. we had a 45 second fall time which seemed to last for ages - it was an amazing feeling and nothing like a rollercoaster thank god! Feels weightless as you fall rapidly to the ground!
The instructor suddenly releases the parahute and your gliding down to the ground. I was helping control the parachute and he decided to do some quick spins which did give a rollercoaster feeling but all was good. A few minutes later and we were back on ground thinking if it really happened! UNBELIEVABLE!!
Afterwards we went out with a local Red Bull guy who showed us round the main spots, met some of gis friends who all seemed to be girls and had a great night! Friday was meant to be at the spa but it was cancelled so we chilled out, gad a big steak in the evening and today we´re ctaching up with Lucy and Liv from uni before getting the bus to La Serena in Chile for a couple of days on the beach!
Hope all is good at home!
Happy mothers day for tomorrow (my card may arrive monday as internet was playing up yesterday!)
