Hello all!
as you can tell from me writing this blog - I´m not in chile at the moment and have therefore avoided the earthquake.
Spent the last few days in Bariloche which is a popular destination for vacations in argentina - a ski resort in winter and outdoor activities in the summer!
Yesterday we went cycling around the main lake and mountain range here which was a 27km cycle. Was actually quite good fun and the scenary was stunning. At one point we managed to find our way down to a small deserted pebbled beach on the edge of one of the lakes. The water was crystal clear and from above you could see to the bottom. We went swimming there and the water was absolutely freezing but it was very refreshing following the marathon cycle ride!
Today we´ve been white water rafting down river manso which takes you from Argentina to Chile and was awesome! it was 10 rapids with flat boits in between that took around 2 hours to complete. At one stage we went through the main rapid called ´deep throat´and yes many jokes were made! lol! we got half way through and as we tried to pass on the far right after having to pass on the opposite we smashed into a big rock in the middle. The guide shouted out to all go right but due to his native language being spanish he meant left and everyone basically added to the push off the rock and bundled into my side at the front which pushed me into the water! However, it was awesome going in and getting to swim downthe last little bit!
At one stage in the rapids they gave us the option of floating down a calm point and loads of people jumped in but quickly got back in as the water was cold. I decided to stay in for the full 5minutes which was amazing. After a while I got used to the cold and we were wearing wet suits and splash jackets so was very warm. Coupled with a life jacket and helmet I could lie down and float down the river without having to move a muscle! The scenary was amazing and was a very surreal peaceful part to what was otherwise an adrenalin packed activity!!!
Moving onto Pucon on Tuesday where on wednesday we will hopefully climb a volcano called villarica. It is part glacier rather ironically on the way up so you need cramp ons to climb and then the last 50 metres is on the volcano summit. You can only stay at the top for a bit as the sulphuric smoke makes it hard to breathe!
Anyway many more adventures to come and we will keep you all updated! Relaxing tomorrow and trying to find somewhere to kite surf but we´ll see!
Hope you´re all well!
