Bahram's World Tour 2006
Guatemala is a beautiful country because it doesn't have too many yanks around. No seriously, its great, the people are friendly and the streets are small little cobbled streets with mud brick houses.
Thought I would take a few days of Spanish classes to help me comunicate with people better, (yes ok, with the ladies more so, you got me). I was starting my 1 month bus tour of central america so had some time to practice my uno dos, tres and how to ask a women if they come here often! Had such a good time learning Spanish in Antigua, I am considering going back at a later time and spending a month or so there to pick up the language more.
Antigua is a great town, with bars and clubs and the main sqaure is beautiful with waterfountains, but not just an water fountains, statues of topless ladies with water coming out of their nipples, now thats what I call imagination. I unfortunately did not have time to go up to see the Pacaya volcano, but from the pictures I had seen from friends who had been up there, its seemed amazing, just wished I had the time to venture up there.
Meeting my tour group who I would be spending the next few weeks with was fun. Going out for dinner on the first night and getting plastered always helps. The divide had been already been visible with the oldies going home leaving the youngens out to party, but they were easy going and friendly too. Apart from this Russian couple, who make the point of moaning about everything and are never happy. That added to the fact that the husband, Dimitri has a habit of wearing speedos (which i will now refer to as budgie smugglers), lets just say they are not my favourite people.
Visiting Mayan ruins and the site of Tikal, which was the capital of the Mayan empire trully took my breath away. How these people lived, built their empire, calculated their calendars by using the stars and the sun, kind of reminds me of the Persians because we are that intelligent also :)
Well I will now love you and leave you. Tip of the day, don't wear budgie smugglers when half your budgie falls out of your smugglers!
