Bahram's World Tour 2006
Well, seeing as I haven't updated my online journal in a while, I'll just give a quick rundown and brief entry of what I have done since leaving Mexico, 3 months ago, well I'll try.
USA; From Mexico City I travelled up to San Francisco, stopping off in Dallas which by the way has a wicked airport, plasma tv's and all sorts, although watching fat yanks eating prime rib and steak at 9am was a bit stomach wrenching.
Anyway, San Fran was awesome, the people, the streets and the sights. Alcatraz was cool and hearing about people trying to escape was interesting, if only these prisoners had put their imaginative minds to better use. Taking a tour of the city, over the Golden gate bridge and of course to Castro, the gay part of the city where I spent a couple of hours in a bar talking to a lovely welsh guy called Daavid from Wales, whilst we drank bacardi and coke together. Great nightlife in this city, jazz bars and clubs, would love to come back one day.
Onto Yosemite national park where I spent a few days hiking the trails of this beautiful national heritage site. The thought that George W wants to dig up his own national parks to look for oil pretty much sums the guy up, a pilluck! Meeting a couple of yanks on one of my hikes down from one of the many beautiful waterfalls, getting into an in depth conversation about politics and was nice to find out that there are some sane Americans in this world that don't like him. The fact that they were apologising to me and were embarrassed pretty much sums it up. Anyway, on a lighter note, saw some grizzly bears which was pretty scary, man can they move fast for a fatty. Yosemite park really opened my eyes up to the natural beauty the US has to offer.
To Vegas for a few days and for the first 6 hours of getting into the city I had a smile on my face, the lights, the ladies in skimpy waitress outfits and the buzz, unreal. The fountain shows at the Bellagio, the detail of which the hotels have been built from rivers made to scale from Venice in the Venetian, to a half size replica of the NY skyline and the Eifel tower, unreal! Winning some money in NY NY was satisfying and being up over all by $12, I felt like I beat the system, moa hahaha!! If you have the money you can get anything you want in Vegas and the advertising of escorts and strippers on billboards attached to vans going up and down the strip was brilliant, not that a called them of course, I'm too cheap to do that, I just gawped at the lovely lady on the billboard, mmmm, Saskia, happy days!
San Diego was next where I met up with some family friends, John, Shay and their two adorable kids Emma and Jamie. Jamie and I need to talk at some point, his habit of wearing pink high heals and pushing around a pram is rather concerning, but I guess I wore makeup when I was his age (this was due to my sisters by the way, not out of choice, thanks Mitra and Gita) Had a ball in San Diego, going to Sea world to see the famous Shamu. Thanks John and Shay and the Hanson family for your hospitality, really enjoyed my time in San Diego with you guys, hope you enjoyed the Pinot!
Next up was LA and to be honest did not live up to expectations. It's a huge city and if you don't have a car you don't have a chance of seeing everything it has to offer. Seeing David Hasselhoff on Rodeo Drive was definitely the highlight of my travels so far, what a legend and the fact that he replied back to me and my friend when we said hello to him made me wet my pants a little bit, that's how excited I was! Going up to the Hollywood sign and then driving through Compton seeing gangs and tramps shoot heroin and giving us the finger is something I'll never forget, memories!
Alaska; Next up was a lovely cruise with my mum and dad to Alaska, how lucky am I!? Don't think I have eaten so much in my life, and the scenery was beyond belief. Cruising through narrow canals with snow topped mountains on either side of us whilst drinking a hot chocie with a bit of whisky pretty much sums it up. Watching glaciers at first hand melt into the sea, ice crumbling off just like you see on the tv was pretty cool. Whale watching, seeing humpback whales and seals swimming around , oh and by the way did I tell you how much I ate!? Thanks again Mum and dad for the time of my life, had such a great time.
Onto Canada with my mum and dad, visiting my sister and the rest of the family. Also met up with Pete from back home. The family wedding was awesome, thanks Farzan and Nazzi, had such a ball and was good to catch up with everyone. Watching my 6-year-old niece, Tara, sing for you in front of 300 guests made me a very proud uncle. Hope the honeymoon in Greece was everything you expected and more guys.
Going up the tallest structure in the world in the CN tower with Pete was good fun, although I did have to hold his hand over the glass floor, he insisted I hold his ding dong but I refused to do that in public! Niagara falls at night was cool, and then visiting a gentleman's establishment where Pete could not believe his eyes at what he can get for his money.
Aloha to Hawaii and hot hot hot weather and a chance to work back on the tan I had gained from Central and South America. Meeting up with Tom and Steveo and living the dream in Waikiki. Renting a jeep for a couple of days was good fun. Although had a few hairy moments when I ended up on the wrong side of the road pretty much on our first day and the fact the hand brake didn't work was also quite handy! Pearl Harbour was fascinating and still being able to see the Arizona on the bottom of the water was quite emotional, especially with tributes of flowers being thrown into the water below to remember the 100 or so still trapped in the ship. My birthday and the first day of the world cup, Germany v Costa Rica. We found a bar which was showing the games, I was there with my big birthday badge on which the guys got me and pretty much got wasted all day watching the football. The fact that when we left, we forgot to pay the tab and the waitress had to chase us half way down the street to get us to pay it off was quite funny. All was good though, Steveo and I offered Tom as their gimp for the day to make up for it which they declined as they didn't have a gimp suit which was small enough to fit him!
The following day was much the same, this time Tom's bday and England v Paraguay. We couldn't find anywhere which was going to be open at 6am to watch the game live, so we had to watch a reply of it later in the afternoon. After trying so desperately hard not to find out the result, Steveo was rumbled and was blurted out the result by a kind yank, luckily Tom and I were in the loos at the time, gutted. Not to forget the prat in the bar guys, remember him, after we told him we didn't know any results, he decided to inform us, at the time I did feel like smashing my beer over his face but thought that would be a waste of beer.
After spending the second part of the holiday sleeping with Tom, which by the way I miss so much, especially you dribbling over my shoulder as your draped your legs over my body and me shouting at you and getting a JCB to move your twiglet body off me, (never met someone who is as heavy a sleeper as you) had a wicked time with you guys. Got my own back when I got the chance to throw water on Tom's face when he wouldn't get up to catch his flight. Thanks for the memories, haven't had a steak or ribs since!
After spending a lot of time on the island of Oahu, I went to Maui for a few days where I biked down a volcano, which was pretty cool, the sights and scenery again were breathtaking.
Leaving Hawaii and onto NZ, I'll start a new chapter here as I need a break from all this writing.....
