Compared to yesterday, today has been relatively uneventful. Things seemed to go wrong right up to bedtime when I 'thanked' my sister for leaving the tube of Savlon where the toothpaste should have been. (At least I managed to doze off safe in the knowledge that I wouldn't wake up with a gum infection.)
We left Angers and tracked the Loire westwards to Saumur from where we pedalled south to reach Loudon by late afternoon. The rolling countryside of Brittany has been replaced by very flatlands full of vineyards, at the start of the vendage (grape pick). The constant headwind probably knocked at least 25% off our speed and so we were somewhat short of our target, Mirebeau. We had to take each other's wheel to share the load. I was also suffering a bit from dehydration from the previous afternoon and had a bit of a headache as well as a need for some Imodium. Surprising how much fluid you need to take on board for a full day in the saddle. Recovering now.
We save on lunch by purloining a couple of items from the hotel's petit dejeuner spread, such as cheese and then we look to scrump apples along the way.
There's been no need for any bike or tyre repairs yet: the two Treks are performing well. We are prepared though for all emergencies, we even have some amalgam substitute to enable us to carry out minor dental procedures.
I'm glad we brought Hunts now. We talk to him quite a lot and he contributes to the trip. Yesterday we paused in a small village to look at the map and little girl, about three, who was with her mum, asked to smooth it. Pas problem. She seemed to take a shine to him. Her mother lifted her up so she could kiss him! As we moved off she started to sob uncontrollably: he'd broken her heart!
