On Christmas Eve I rode upon Gringalet through marsh and mire, hoping that I would find shelter. Then when I came through open parkland I saw a fine castle sitting on a hill above a deep valley with a wide stream. "Thank God" I said as I arrived to the castles moat " Good sir! Grant me entrance, I pray you, and tell the lord of this castle that I am a knight of King Arthur's court passing this way upon a quest."(88). With a kind smile the porter let me in. I arrived in the courtyard where squires and serving men helped me with my armor and horse as they lead me to a goodly hall where the lord of the castle came forth and greeted me. He said I could stay as long as I like before I was lead to a fair chamber where his men gave me rich, flowing robes lined with fur. I went back and taled with the lord, had dinner, then went to my room "with bright tapers, set a goblet of hot spiced wine at his bedside, and left him their to his rest."(89).
