Well, it's been one full day in Amsterdam! I arrived last night pretty late, and walking down the street to my hostel was full of shops selling magic mushrooms, "coffee shops" and sex shops, but mostly it's all the football fans that are scary lol. The hostel is nice - a popular bar with wifi (hence me on here) cheap drinks and good music, and the room is clean. A towel was provided thankfully - I can't fit anything more in my backpack lol. It's been sunny, warm but not too hot and good weather for wandering the streets. Haven't really found anything interesting but the canals and houses are very pretty. Am right next to the Red Light District, only caught a glimpse of one though coz I haven't been down there at night. My dorm window looks right out onto the street though and did overhear an interesting conversation between some Americans, one of whom was advising his friends "It's 50 euros, but I had to keep my shorts on, and man those girls work fast!" Had a look in one of the tattoo shops and several of the sex shops, everything seems very expensive though - even more so on my budget of 20 euros a day! I had free breakfast in the hostel of bread, jam, salami and cheese (mmmm) but for tea went for the rated Tibet restaurant, where I had the greasiest pork and fried rice ever..:S. Spent a good few hours sleeping inbetween lol. Am currently in the bar attached to the hostel, which is a cool easyoing place with cheap drinks and good music. A guy had a snake in a bag which I got to pet, and I shared some nachos with a Dutch guy. A good evening so far, and the Apprentice is still to come! Here they are watching the football, the streets are all decked out with flags. Tomorrow I have to move to a Christian hostel as this one was booked up, though I might still come back to the bar. As it is more east it will be a shorter walk to the zoo, so I might do that tomorrow. Also plan to spend a day looking around the many museums here. Hopefully I'll be able to leave my bag at the hostel so I don't have to carry it, it's very packed and bloody heavy lol.
