Arrived in Melbourne this afternoon. Mad couple of days. Was in Snowy River County yesterday... playing snowballs with the last of the winter season... Then in the afternoon drove around the national park and came across "5" yes "5" dead horses strewn across the road. Apparently, wild horses are prevalent in the park and it has been known for them to be shot from helicopters. Our guide, Craig thought that may have been the case but it was strange they hadn't been collected. They were literally in the middle of the road. Also saw lots of dead wombats, kangaroos and wallabys ... had a bit of a weird feeling yesterday afternoon. I named the place Dead Horse Valley ... Craig didn't see the funny side.
Today we went to melbourne via Australia's most southerly point, Wilsons Promontory National Park where, in contrast to yesterday, walked across the white sandy beach in 26 degrees. Saw Koalas (alive and everything) in the trees with babies, also saw a who family of about 30 Emu's, cockateils, breathing kangaroos and a wallaby .... possum is now the thing to see.
New tour starts tomorrow up to Adalaide.. will keep you posted.

Yvonne It sort of begs the question "why are they shooting these animals from helicopters" - just glad I wasn't there!!!! how bizzare! Instead of calling it Dead Horse Valley I would have probably started singing "they shoot horses don't they..." Not quite your bubbly self yet in Oz!!!! Yvonne
ian How awful! Surely no sadder sight than a dead horse. Very sad.
