Jet lag hmmm!!!
Was in Melbourne for the start of the next part of the tour, Melbourne to Adalaide. Staying in a single room within the hostel. All sections of the hostel are locked and you can only access your particular area. So I was unable to get to the others staying in a dorm on the next corridor .... anyway. It was another early start, 6.45am in the foyer. I slept really well and was awoken by commotion outside, looked at watch...7.10am!!!! I packed my bags (still have lots) so quickly, cursed my phone for the alarm not going off, cursed myself for not waking up in plenty of time to make use of the en-suite shower, fluffy towels, hair dryer and tea making facilities. Loaded myself up with ridiculously big back pack, medium back pack, sleeping back, shoulder bag and walking boots and bundled myself down the stairs and out side ... no one there except for a girl having a cigarette ... "er, what's the time I asked?" ... "donno...about 2 I guess she said!" . Alarm hadn't gone off cos I had misread my watch and I was nearly 5 hours too early standing on the pavement ready for tour bus. Gave the girl a good laugh anyway, made her promise not to tell anyone then tried to get back into the hostel past all the late night interneters without being noticed.... up side was it was great to go back to bed AND make use of the facilities. Felt really crap for the rest of the day though.
The day was spent driving the Great Ocean Road along the bottom of Australia, should be incredibly picturesque but cant vouch for it as I was asleep for most of the day. The weather wasn;'t great, very overcast and cold...not what I was expecting. We did a good hike up to the top of a small mountain and tried to see the sun set over the 12 appostles (of which there are only 8) but although there was a break in the weather there wasn't a sunset.
We are now in Adalaide, a fairly vibrant city. Here for two nights. Today we travelled up through Victoria state and did a really cool hike up another small mountain but it was quite a technical climb, very satisfying. Leave on Saturday for the start of the next leg which in effect is another new tour with a new guide. Heading up to Alice Springs which apparently has had unusally heavy rainfall over recent months and is the greenest it's ever been - typical. Would really like to see some sun.

rose Oh Anne you really made me laugh!! Bet you felt a real fool standing outside at 2 in the morning all packed and ready to go. At least you were honest enough to tell us. You seem to be having fun still, but a bit more civilised than Africa. Totally different type country though and so I guess the difference in the poverty etc must be quite a contrast. Keep up the fun and blogs, I really enjoy receiving them and hearing what you have been up to. Rose x
jen ha ha ha pissing myself laughing! i have done that before and it is the most unnerving feeling in a way asides from the fact that you feel like a right wally! Hope you see the sun soon:-)
Ann Carty Only you could do that quite so well Anne - 5 hours early! Thanks for sharing that with us!. Life still sounds pretty hectic if not different to your time in Africa. Do hope that sun shines for you soon though! Enjoy .... Ann
