Hey everyone!! Hope you are well!! We write this first entry to our blog sitting on our Rome apartment balcony in beautiful 30+ degree weather! Its gorgeous but it's a humid hot with no all inclusive resort pool we can hop into, only a 2' x 2' shower lol!
We started off our Thursday morning packing up the house, getting tazz all set and heading to the Edmonton airport. Check ins were all good and went and finally got my first pumpkin spice latte of the year! Super yummy! Then waited an hour and a half as Roberto the airport nazi was traveling with me, lol! But I love him for always getting us there on/before time;)
Getting to Montreal was good, only had one crying baby at the beginning and an old lady behind me who thought she needed to press the buttons through her tv into my head...great times!
Layover in Montreal was pretty quick, wish there was a publike place in there though and wish I knew Starbucks was not passed security:( oh well!
On to our 8 hour flight, poor Rob, his long legs were a little cramped but he managed;) It was quite long but they had lots of free tv episodes and movies which passed the time. I think they wanted us to appreciate the pasta while we are here as the chewy, lumpy pasta meal they served us was sure to be in competition with the real deal, lol!
When we got in we jumped on the shuttle which came right up to the plane and went to patiently wait for our bags...like 100 passengers, our bags were probably 4th to the end to come out! Oh well, they made it!
We then headed off to the train to take us into Rome...only a little Italian confusion on what train to get on but thankfully we picked the right one!
Once we got into this beautiful city we decided to walk the 3.3km to our apartment with our backpacks full, well mine full..I even packed light, dammit! That will teach me! The weather is so hot here, like 35 degrees of humid hot, so by half way there my back was dripping in sweat! Gross! But don't worry, I put those lost calories back in when I saw the first gelati place! Mmm! Delicious!!
Walking we noticed the streets were dirtier than expected, the architecture was amazing and the greenery is breathtaking! You also find out when you walk here, there is no right of way for you...ever..even if there is a crosswalk! They are nuts!! Crazy people! But when they are not behind the wheel, Italians are so calm and relaxed, just enjoying life as they walk down the street! Rob pointed out every car we saw(which tons are parked everywhere) had scuff marks or damage! I wonder how insurance is over here?
We finally made it to our apartment and met our landlady, super nice! The apartment is so quaint and italian like, cozy like an Italian grammas house! We love it! After going through every thing we headed out to a supermarket...to get wine or course and a little food;)
We are now on the balcony, enjoying the nice weather and wonderful Italian wine;) It's a dream come true;)
Off to the Spanish steps and trevi fountain tomorrow!!
