Our last few days in Khao Lak were great...spent relaxing by the pool, swimming in the ocean and walking the beach. The weather there was so funny though. Every day we knew what it would do. Morning, bright full sun, Afternoon, Cloudy with sun, and by Evening it would just pound rain. Sometimes not for long, but sometimes for a few hours. By dinner it would clear though and we would still see lightning flashing in the distance on the water. We spent our last two dinners in Khao Lak at D-Time. (Roberta had recommended this place) Here we spent some time with Suk and Sit, the owners. They were super friendly and helpful and were the ones who got us up to the school. This place was also where we booked our elephant trip. Suk was the one who spoke better english and she'd sit with us during dinner some time and she showed us guest books with stuff Mike's family had written. There were also several other visitors from Vancouver that we didnt know, but were surprised to see because almost all of the tourists in Khao Lak are german or swedish. So...we made it to Bangkok yesterday...after being really sad to leave Khao Lak. We ended up flying back cause it took an hour and a half rather than 18 hours by bus. We flew One-Two-Go, which we were a bit hesistant about at first but it was all good. It took no time to get to the domestic airport in BKK. When we got in it was raining and it was super nice. Was really glad it wasnt stupid hot out. We got a taxi to Khaosan road and it felt totally different than the last time we were here. Not as annoying and hot. Not sure if it was just because we are so used to the climate now, or whether it was cause we were so jet-lagged the first time. Bangkok hasnt been so bad at all this round. We checked in to the same place we stayed before and they were happy to have us back. I couldnt believe the guy remembered us. We got the same same room as last time pretty much minus the mothball smell. score! So yesterday we walked around and scouted out stuff we'd want to buy...checked out some vendor's asking prices and did our window shopping. Part of me feels bad that we didnt make it to any temples or galleries while we were here...but with so much stuff to buy, there really wasnt much time for it in 1.5 days. Instead of seeing the sights we pretty much have raided the street shops and done a mass amount of shopping damage. Today we woke up at 10, had our complimentry breakfast and set out on the street by noon. I think we did something like 5 trips worth back to our room with bags of loot. Afterall, Bangkok is thee place to shop when it comes to shopping. So much going on, so many people, so much stuff to bargain...lots of "you look for free, no problem" and "i give you discount" and "you try on. it ok. no problem." Mike and I got more than enough good deals and discounts. The people that work the front desk and the tourist lady here at our hotel probably thought we were nuts every time we'd come back with more stuff. hehe.So after all our shoppin, we were tired of course...cause shopping really is a lot of work! We went for our last supper in Thailand and went very un-thai for food and decided on italian. Had the margherita pizza and gelato for dessert. Totally not in thai spirit, I know...but there's only so much pad thai noodle spice and rice one can take. So we arranged our taxi for tomorrow morning. It will take us to the airport at 5am to arrive by 7am (might be hitting morning rush hour). And then our flight to Hong Kong leaves at 10am. Really strange to think we are leaving...it feels like we have been gone for so much longer than 4 weeks...but at the same time it almost feels like it was a little while ago that we arrived here all tired, cranky and without our back-packs. So much has happened since then...many fun times and memories. An Overall really great time here in the Land of Thai. Definitely will be returning again some day. :)Hope everyone has enjoyed reading! Aiming to have the photos up shortly after we get back and I will do a post on this blog that links to the website once it's up. So stay tuned.See you soon Vancouver! :)
