mon 30th (again!)- yeah kinda just wandered today, went to the gaol though which was really interesting and had loads of death masks of the ppl they hanged (in Ned Kelly) they had all the original cells, the gallows and s*** like that. the cells were tiny and had none of the mod cons that todays criminals get, so it was pretty grim back in those days. read some more of my book and then headed over to the film festival to see Hot House, a film based in Israel, lookin at the Hamas problem over there and the ways it could be resolved. there were laods of interviews which convicted criminals and it was really interesting to see their view point and the reasons they did it- and they didnt hold back either. one women was a tv reporter, she drovet eh suicidebomber to a cafe, and then reported on it later on the primetime news slot- how surreal is that?
tues 31st- after reading gaz and kyms blog went to the shrine of remembrance and for a general walk. it was well worth it, as the shrine was more like a temple, but called a shrine for obvious reasons. it was really impressive, moving and mad me realise that while the aussies are proud of what the armed forces have done over the years and seek to show their respect for them at ever opportunity, in england we seem to be more reserved. unless thats just me not exploring the city and country very well, but there are statues and pillars and plaques in every little town or city no matter how big or where you go. thought it would be fun to walk to albert park to fin the grand prix track, well remnants of it cos its a road track. spent a while wandering round but finally found some kerbs to take pics of! prob not worth the hassle but it takes my track tally to 3! went to a comedy night with jason and his mates tonite and it was good to get out of the hostel at night really.
weds 1st- today was museum day, so kinda cheap! first was the NGV:Australia and then it was the NGV:International. the lattter was much bigger, but both equally as good. both had the good exhibits and bad exhibits as you expect really, but i still cant get my head round some of the 'new and comtemporary' art. its not art at all, but obviously someone, somewhere likes it! i mean some of the pieces i can appreciate the skill and just not like it but others are just s***. beer and table tennis in the eve, before headin off to the ACMi for MIFF film #2- Lake Of Fire and it was basically a dual sided docu on the abortion debate over in america. it ws really graphic showing the horrors of abortion, showed the emotions women go thru before/during/and after an abortion and then all the diff and varying opinion ppl have on the matter- be it prolife or prochoice, anti-abortion or pro-abortion. an enlightening 150 mins, but not one for xmas. made me think a lot about the subject but i am still pro choice at the end of it, despite seeing the foetus in the sink and being able to make out its (her/his) eyes, face, fingers, toes etc. the divide between when life starts is so blurred and i think its totally up to each situation and what the mother/ family wants. a bit intense there, sorry.
thurs 2nd- in the morn went for a tour round the massive MCG. the place holds 100,000 or maybe a few more and is really impressive. we did the usual things of changing rooms, onto the pitch (well pitch side), tv room, members stand (were u gotta be wearin a suit to get in, but the views are wicked) etc etc. to become a full mcc member and get seats at all the standard games (ie not the finals of the afl, or the boxing day test) costs $550, or 250 quid f***in bargain and footy costs 350+ for old trafford for 19games! went back to the hostel to chill for a bit and then headed over to the ACMI for the PIXAR exhibtion, was told by a few ppl that it wasnt that good, but i really enjoyed it. it talked about the process from idea-storyboard-final shots, had loads of stills, the resin models of the characters, and loads of handson things to do. a good few hours and managed to sneak a few pics too of the models thou u werent meant to! again in the eve spent the maj of the nite playin table tennis or watchin casino royale/ richard pryor on dvd!
fri 3rd- internet again before i jump on the road tom, so prob gonna go to st kilda (at last!) today and then in the eve just relax with ppl at the hostel and watch the afl game (dont think i'm gonna go this time, save my money for a nrl game instead).
