Tuesday 22nd- got a lovely wake up by my fellow roomies at 6am so they could go to fraser, but nevermind it will be my turn tomorrow!!! didnt do too much save stay on the beach cos we had the fraser island meetin at 3pm. the meeting involved a few safety things, signing away our lives and then meeting the rest of our group- 2 French Xavier and Nadia, 3 Chileans Josefina, Catalina and Enrique, 1 Italina Niccolo and 5 English- Chloe, Steve, Annabel, Charlie and moi, so a nice mix of nationalities! we bought food, alcohol and pissed around for the eve, and then headed to the hostel next door for happy hour and a few cheeky drinks before bed time!
weds 23rd- it was f***ing cold this morn so wasn't happy, but after a few more safet things, a little talk and brekkie we were ready to head off to the ferry. a nice convoy of trucks left the hostel and the first stop was lake wabby.
we arrived there a little shaken cos the tracks are s***- well i guess it being a giant sand island doesn't help! but i was the first to roll down the sand dunes into the lake and after 4 beers and only brekkie to say i was a lil dizzy didnt do it justice! but the day was made when a few scots n ausies came along with bodyboards and we spent the rest of the day sandboarding down the dunes, making a ramp which lead to some pretty good air and speed! drove down the beach and set up camp, bbq for tea followed by drinking! wandered onto the beach to attemp to find a dingo, no luck but i did find the other 2 trucks so we had a beach party!
thurs 24th- a nice wake up call by martin- the danish lad for nextdoor's camp meant i watched the sunrise over the pacific and east beach, brekkie was followed by a trip to happy valley for a fag break, and then onto Eli Creek and a swim and then to the Maheno Wreck which was awesome and still in pretty good nick being in mind its been there for a good few decades! set up camp at 12 cos of the tide restrictions (which were a total joke), couldnt be arsed to stay there so a few of us tried to run to Indian Heads (me, Inga and Helen managed to hitch hike but the guys ran for 8kms!) the views were outstanding, esp of the coast line and the cliff faces, and managed to see some mantra rays and small sharks, but no big tiger sharks and then headed over to the champagne pool which were ace. the water crashed over the rocky outcrop and the surf makes a bubbling effect, me and some norwich guy called mieky decided to walk along the rocks and jump in when the tides hit which was pretty cool, but greg trying to be smart wanted a pic of the wves crashing...prompting a massive wave coming, soaking me from head to toe and wetting my camera...thou its kinda working to date! ran back 3km to indian heads to meet ppl, tried to walk back but it took ages, and then got saved by chloe in our truck after 90 mins of walking! spag bog for tea, more drinking games followed by a party on the beach which was crashed by the local fishermen...fun to be had all round!
friday 25th- again up early to make the most of the day, towards lake mackenzie before the ferry. the weather was ok, but cloudy and i was a little disappointed by it really. it was totally clear and i could see the bottom even after diving down, but it was just a really beauiful lake, not too sure the weather helped but i reckon lake wabby was better, as was the champagne pools for sheer fun value! ferry back and then we sorted all the s*** out. had some food left so we had a bbq and celebrated Xavier's and Josefina's bday as a group, went to the hostel next door for happy hour (inc Gary, Gemma Robinson's bro- danny u should remember her from junior school) after numerous beers we sang happy birthday in english, spanish and french and the headed to the Moroccan club till 3am.
sat 26th- woke up to say bye to chloe and steve, brekkie and then bummed around. went to see pirates 3 which was really really good with mike, paul, gary and inga. there were a few silly bits but all in all a great trilogy. the main cast were there usual selves and the cameo by keith richards made it! stayed in and watched the wales- aus game and crashed in bed cos i was knackered!
sunday 27th- no much to do really, everyone has gone and there's not much to do here. the weather is grey and rainy so i've updated my blog, and will prob spend the day reading and sortin s*** out before i get the oz bus to kroombit and airlie beach tomorrow at 7am.
