The afternoon of the 14th saw us arrive at the Silent Grove camp ground, Silent Grove Campground is a pretty standard national park campground with all the usual facilities. You pass it on the way, about 10 km before you get to Bell Gorge. Well, at this stage you can't book a remote bit of dirt in the bush. You just rock up and squeeze in with everyone else which is what we did, That night saw Nikki and Kieran get Azra off to bed early, then the frothy stuff came out and the game of UNO commenced, How embarrassing again when you realise the following morning that other campers could hear our shenanigans and laughing well into the night. I met a great couple that morning, Tom and Lana, they said they laughed themselves to the point of having pain in their chest's from hearing Vikki laugh, funny thing having holiday's just does that kind of thing to you doesn't it? We must of kicked up pretty good that as when we woke most of the site had emptied!!
Later that morning Vikki and I with the Rowland's packed the walking gear again to find our way to Bell Gorge. Its not such a hard walk in but more stepping over rocks and stepping through small creeks. Once you arrive at the top of the falls you can see the beauty of the Kimberly come alive in front of your eyes. We had a quick swim in the relatively cold water and headed over the top of the hill to climb our way down to the bottom of the falls, what a place. I couldn't believe how Vikki and I trekked further and further along this section, steep sections of rocks on a slippery pathway, I reckon the river just kept calling us in,, then you get there and WOW, it is superb. Enjoy the pics of this area; I hope they show its true beauty.
Bell Gorge is part of the King Leopold Range Conservation Park. The turn off to access the gorge and the camping area is about 250 km from Derby. Bell Gorge is about 30 km off the Gibb River Road. Where you first have to cross the creek on slippery rocks, and then scramble down the steep rock wall leading to the water edge. But once you get there everything is just perfect:
When we arrived back at Silent Grove I met the local ranger, at first I thought he may be coming over to me to ask if we were going to be staying another night!! As I spoke with him I asked in our conversation if the beauty of the area can get any better? He advised us to visit Galvan's Gorge on our way to Mount Elizabeth Station the following day, more of that in our next update, Mount Elizabeth Station, glad I spoke with him though!!
Cheers to then.
