Well what a day its been,
We left Karatha at 7am this morning, after filling with diesel 120 litres @ $1.69 we headed out past the information centre and had to get a coffee from the Javavan, best coffee in the Pilbara!!. We set our destination for Broome, ETA 3pm, "wrong". Really slow trip 80k's out of Port Hedland into town, very busy with heavy haulage and stopping traffic to let the huge loads go by. Managed to get into Caltex at 9am in Hedland, picked up the diesel bowser and sure enough its F*&ked and leaked diesel all over me, beauty, smell of fuel for the rest of trip, no soap in the dunny either to wash up and to make it worse the rotten mongrels charged me for the diesel that spilt, yep 1.19 litres spilt, but somehow was counted!!!
Anyway head off and all is beaut, reading how much fuel were using we cruise past Pardoo thinking got enough to make it to Broome, you see we are used to getting 100K's per 11 litres.. Sandfire goes by and reckon I'm good to make it into Roebuck just before Broome. Made it to the service station there and NO diesel - WTF I'm on the warning light for the past 40K's and pushing it would've seen us run out of fuel. Send out a call for help to old mate Kieran, can you bring us out a jerry can please mate, as usual it was no worries from him always happy to help out an ol mate!! I didnt expect him to turn up with his camera taking pictures of the missus and I on the side of the road waiting for help.. anyway I shot him a glimpse of my bum so cant wait to them make its way onto his web page, thanks mate!!
Got into Broome after 6.30pm, fueled up again with diesel for 115litres this time. Geez didnt expect to use so much, the toejo is usually so good. We used a total of 178 litres for the day, fueled up for tomorrow's trip to Cape Leveque, thats 21litres per hundred K's ouch, I would imagine were pulling 2 tonne with the camper fully loaded with all of Vikki's stuff (didn't think her hair dryer and straightener weighed that much) haha!!.
Off to Cape Leveque tomorrow with Kieran, Nikki and Azra, it didnt seem so bad today when you see her big brown eyes and cheeky grin and she gives a hug and kiss when on the side of the road - that's Azra not Nikki, DOH!! Really looking forward to setting up camp tomorrow and venturing off for a fish with old mate and maybe wrestle some crocs for a bit of exercise before wetting the whistle with a bottle or two watching the most fantastic sunsets in the Kimberly's with my beautiful wife Vikki
See you tomorrow, Cheers big ears
