April's Adventure around the world!
Another blog entry with out photos :(
Lets see...I have been trying to find an alternative yoga course to follow along side my yoga teacher training course so that I learn as much as possible. The training course I am signed up for now is not as physical as I had hoped for. The graduated students said that they felt that this course would not be enough to prepare someone to teach a yoga course. My course consists of a lot of chanting, breathing and meditation techniques. The physical poses are very basic. So I either would like to quit and join another, or do two courses at once. the good thing about this course is that room and food are included in the price (you pay more) but he is allowing me to do the 500 advanced course for the price of the 200 basic course, which was very kind of him. He says he sees a lot of potential in me etc...Probably a bunch of BS. I dont know if he is just trying to make me the teachers pet or not. I ended up trying out another yoga course (200 level teacher training course). It was so intense. we were doing head stands and full bows on the first day! I loved it. just what i was looking for a yoga bootcamp :) I told the other swami (yoga teacher ) that i wanted to quit. he did not take it so lightly. he wanted to charge 300 dollars for nothing. The course did not even start yet! I talked him into giving me back $900 of the $1000. Real yogis are not money hungry and have a good heart. I was also told that he is a corrupt man and that he gives the yoga certificates to students who pay and do not want to take the course. Thats cheating and dishonest! I am glad I chose not to do the course with him. Jessica did not like the class either, so we decided to leave together and get a room on the other side of town. One of our lunch friends joined us, Kris. he ate his meals at the ashram, so we told him about our new yoga place and he joined. So we all packed our bags and headed to loxmanjhula. we walked for 30-40 minutes with our full packs and arms full of books etc. What a walk! There were no rooms available by the time we got there because of a celebration in india called kumbh mela http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumbh_Mela . The town was full of tourists. So we shared a room with kris for 2 days, luckily he had 3 beds. The day of the kumbala, I met up with some yoga students and a teacher. we all went to Hardiware for the kumbh mela. it is a holy celebration when the monks come out of there temples, cover themselves with ash and run into the ganga river naked. It happens every 12 years and i was a part of it :) I also bathed in the ganga river, and yes it was COLD, but refreshing! I got a new phone number. the other sim card charged too much for calls. This one should get free incoming calls :) the only thing is that the guy wont turn it on until i give him a copy of my passport and visa. But you wouldnt beleive that there is no copy machine in this town! very old school here in india. so now i must search for a place, but i do not have much time between my yoga classes. The ashram i will be staying in is only 200 rupees per day ($4.40). Jessica and i are sharing the room, so its only half that! The food here is cheap also. It is 50 cents for a tea, oatmeal or toast and only $1 for a dinner or lunch! Well of course you can spend more, but that is average.I may just have to move here for good...just kidding...
I am so sore from yoga! My back is the worst from all the back bends. The good thing with the course is that our teacher is a bone surgeon! His lectures are very detailed with science, which is important for me to understand yoga in that manner. The course is also listed with Yoga Allience USA, so our names will be on a register for Certified Yoga Teachers. We must study to pass the exams though. We will teach the class at least 4 times and take two tests about philosophy, science, anatomy, physiology, poses, breathing techniques and meditation techniques ect. Oh yeah, the monkeys are crazy around here. I bought some bananas from a fruit stand and was walking back to the Ashram where i was staying and a monkey came and riped them out of my hand and ran away with them! Sneaky little things they are! Tomorrow we will be going to the waterfall with our yoga class to have our lecture outside. We will also be heading to the beach where we can swim...tomorrow will be a nice day :)
