Day 1
I arrived at 3:45 am this morning (2/4). I have been traveling since 2/2. As I unboarded the plane and entered the airport, I was shocked to see a little indian man holding up a sign that said my full name on it! I did not tell anyone in india that i was arriving on this day. I was baffled at how he knew my name and where to pick me up at. I said, "hi, how are you?". He signaled me to follow him as he did not speak english. So we hurried along. We got special treatment and did not have to wait in line for customs. He helped me with my baggage. At this point I was concerned. I kept asking who he was and why he was helping me. All kinds of thoughts were going through my head; was i a suspect? wanted for questioning because of my baggage? Did Nitin or Vinny have anything to do with it? Finally the little indian showed me the sign with my name on it again...it was my friend Nitin's uncle. I smiled so big! I was so happy to see that Nitin had suprised me and told his uncle that I was coming. It was Nitin's uncle (Sharad's) driver who picked me up.
He treated me like a daughter and gave me a place to stay and a place to leave my things while i traveled around. He told me to use his house as a main hub and to come back between trips to shower and eat. His servants fed me, washed my clothes and drove me where ever i needed to go. He also gave me a cell phone to use while i stay in india!
When we arrived at Sharad's house (one of five that he owns), he showed me around. He has servants to cook for him, clean, drive, and guard his house! His servants made me chai tea. It was tea made with milk and sugar...kinda sweet and orangy flavored. We talked for a bit while sipping on the tea and then eventually rested our eyes from 6 am to about 9 am. I awoke to the bustling traffic below. Its unlike anything i have ever seen before! I swear we almost ran a few people and motorcyclists over :) They honk at everyone , run red lights and are super aggressive! His servant made me chai tea, i showered and then we ate breakfast which consisted of a potato recipe with indian bread. After breakfast we went to his office. This is where I got to see india's crazy traffic! The roads are shared with buses, bicyclists, pedestrians, carrages, people pushing large carts of food, ladys carrying bags of rice on there head etc... Delhi is very populated and smoggy.
Besides living like a prince, Nitin's uncle works at a sugar factory (dhampur) where they turn sugar can into pure sugar crystals. He will take me there later.
He says until i go to my yoga class, which starts 11 feb, his driver will take me all around delhi and when I return from the class, he will take me to a holly city and agra to see the taj mahal. His sister also lives in Kathmandu Nepal where I will be headin to later. She is married to the prime ministers son. She will take care of me and I can stay with her while I am there!
I am so grateful for nitin and his uncle! I dont know what I would have done without them! India is so very dangerous, especially when you are a girl traveling alone! I see that now that i am here. There are no coincidences in life; I went to Maryland to get my indian visa which was a nightmare and a lot of trouble. I stayed with my good friend Nitin which just happens to be from india. We ended up having to go to NYC to get my visa...to make a long story short, there was a reason why things happened the way they did...it is as if god through out his hand and I grabbed a hold!
