So so so my English crew!!
Thought I’d fill you in on the goings on down under!!
Mum and Dave came out for three weeks hols as you can see from some of the piccys, I have more to go on at some point. They arrived on the Sat morning at 10am and I was so excited to go and pick them up from the airport. Zoe and I had decided on the Friday night to large it up in Melbourne city centre and we certainly did that. We started out straight from work in the bar downstairs and snaked our way from the bottom of town to the top. At around 8pm we went to go into a bar and were informed on the door that it was a pole dancing club, not wanting to look stupid we said ‘lovely we’ll have two straight vodkas please!!’ We had a good bit of banter going and a few laughs with the girls on the pole, and they were pretty damn talented. So anyway stayed for one then shot off to about 20 more bars and ended up dancing until 3.30. Fell into bed and up again four hours later I was feeling less than sharp. Although the excitement did enough to counteract it. I had to blitz the house etc…
Then a dude from work had offered to let me borrow his car to pick up the kiddies although as you all know how my driving skills shape up at the best of times I thought it better to give him the opportunity to be driver!!! So we had a chauffer thank god.
I met the guys at the airport and it was amazing, crazy when you think I saw them everyday before I left home and then not at all for 9 months. They’d done 24 hours straight flight with a stopover in Singapore and hadn’t slept, in Mum’s case she had discovered Singapore slings and was washing them down with red wine and didn’t want to miss any of the drinks going round so had stayed awake the entire time!! I got them home (to what my brother refers to as the ghetto, clearly I am more street than I realised) and had to keep them up all day until they could sleep in the evening to get adjusted. So I took them to the beach, we had coffee along St Kilda pier, then we went to the south Melbourne market which is full of amazing food. We stocked up on all sorts like marscapone filled figs and pistachio and walnut filled dates, yum, as well as a few more bottles of le vin rouge. So we were on a bit of a mission woops (I should have been letting them take it easy) all was going well until the tram broke down on the way home and we had to trail around the city a different route to get back, never mind. Mother was a nodding dog all the way back. Finally back at home we just chilled out for the evening.
So the first week in Melbourne they checked out the city and it gets the thumbs up hooray. Although, now it’s summer the flys have obviously come in from the outback to party with the rest of us and it can be pretty intense. I’d like to say that David’s comment of ‘argghhh I just want to throw myself off a building’ was in complete jest but I think he was a good 90% serious at one point. We went to Healesville sanctuary to check out the indigenous animals, namely mister wombat and koala, misses kangaroo and senior Tasmanian devil. All of which were asleep mostly apart from when Dave threw stones at them to make them move!! That afternoon we went to the Yarra Valley to do some wine tasting. The favourite was Chandon as in Moet & Chandon. All of the wines were amazing and we left with a bottle of pink champagne, beautiful! I’ll be going there again. We also had a day at the races, dressed up, hats the works. We went on what is known as ladies day and it was a beautiful sunny one so was fab. We drunk champagne and watched the races, I lost all my bets but dave won all his back on the last race.
Before we set off for a drive along the great ocean road we had an evening at kai & Imm’s amazing house. They did a Mongolian hotpot for us. They have an amazing swimming pool outside which is all lit up at night, Imm and I sat on the edge and dangled our feet in which was so good!!
Over the next few days we drove along the great ocean road which you’ve seen pictures of me doing before. It’s absolutely stunning, the weather was clear and really windy which was perfect because it made the waves roar and crash noisily on the beach and against the cliffs. We took a helicopter trip of the twelve apostles (my third helicopter ride this year, I love them!) Stayed in an amazing apartment that looked out over the beach and drunk our pink champagne (I love my life). We rented this big old gangsta type car for the trip which I loved, I want one for when I set off round oz. It cornered beautifully which Dave commented on because he said it was coping well with my atrocious driving!
For the last week we were in Sydney. I’ve been to Sydney for a weekend and thought it was pretty good but this week really made it. We had an apartment by the harbour so we could walk to the opera house, Sydney bridge etc…. which we did for most days. Had lots of good food and wine and went to the beaches (Bondi and Manley). The weather was perfect so we tanned ourselves. I booked a surfing lesson for Dave and I and it was by far the hardest sport I’ve ever tried. So much fun though. I got washed downstream and was fighting my way through the waves which kept crashing on me at a ridiculous rate until I was rescued by the instructor woops, after just about hauling me up on the surf board I came crashing off it in a wave and landed on his head, nice work April. The best part for me was making it out behind the waves and sitting on the surfboard dangling just your legs in. A sharks dream!! There haven’t been any shark attacks since 1926 in Sydney though so I thought it was pretty safe!! It was so tiring, then in the afternoon Mum and I did the 3 and a half hour Sydney bridge climb. Was pretty funny suiting up in boiler suits and marching up the bridge. Definitely a day to remember!!
The next day I’d set my alarm for 6.30am and put it across the apartment to make sure I’d get up and turn it off, when I got out of bed my legs literally buckled underneath me and I fell over. My body felt like I’d been in the ring with Mike Tyson!! Then we trawled off to the blue mountains which are stunning. They look amazing and words don’t really do it justice I’m afraid!!
Back in Melbourne for the last day with the Nicholas crew and we went to the crown casino for food at the waterfront yum. I had to say bye to the guys on the Thursday night before their flight home and for the next two days was really home sick, looked into flights to come home for a few weeks and everything. I swiftly turned to alcohol and haven’t looked back since. I’ve partyed until the sun comes up almost every night. My two new friends Beni and Fay are my party pals as Zoe left to go off travelling blub blub. Our motto is ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead!!’
Sorry about the essay, if you’ve made it to the end very well done. Lots of love to you all
