Darlings, update as promised!!
Well there have been some interesting updates this week. To recap!! My last day working at Medibank was supposedly Yesterday (Tues 20th March). The HR department and most other people in the know, didn’t think I stood a hope in hell’s chance of appealing to immigration. However it’s a prerogative of mine NEVER to say never. So I wrote a letter to them anyway, chased this letter with immigration almost daily (represented the true British winging culture as I should, if we are known to nag as a nation then I may as well nag!!!) and today of all days as I’m working illegally (actually for free, I have impeccable work ethic) I receive an e mail from my now good friend at immigration issuing a work permission extension of 6 weeks.
After initially reading the e mail incorrectly I thought it was a rejection, with a tear in my eye I read the news out to the MPL crew, I then quietly re read to double check and found I’d skimmed over the one sentence which endorses my 6 week extension request. Oops. So I almost ran through the office woot wooing. Thinking I’m high and dry and singing to myself at my desk, my boss breaks the news that there was a recruitment freeze at Medibank on Monday and I was not counted as I was technically finishing on Tuesday, can you believe. So at this point my fate lies with the CFO who can make the call on whether I can slip into the count for 6 weeks or not (then I will be axed). No idea how it will turn out. But kiddies I am a believer in fate and it’ll all work out for the best no doubt!!
In the mean time I don’t yet have a concrete living arrangement but I’m going (please cover your eyes mother) celebratory clothes shopping this weekend post immigration success!!! Watch out winter fashions, I’ll be ploughing through you at great speed.
Will keep you all posted on the work/living situation and get pics of my new purchases to post on the website!! Tee hee.
I’ve been swotting all lunch time for a conference I’m attending with my girlies tonight. In thinking I would be a lady of leisure and finishing up at work I had decided I’d spend my time (couple of weeks) hitting the gym and attending conferences at Melbourne Uni (they have free ones and usually provide canapés and drink, clever I thought, improve on the body and mind!!!) So we all signed up for a conference by this super hot shot economist (top 13 in the world) educated at Harvard and lecturing on ‘Media slant in the US’. I hit a brick wall in reading his paper when I reached the formula section but I’m all ready to roll with everything else (always have been and always will be a nerd kiddies!!!)
Ok loadsa love.
Keep me up to date on your news.
Adios amigos!!
