OK kiddies, i'm going to have to type this in installments as I have a feeling i'll ramble on for a while.
Steve arrived a few days after Christmas and the happy couple were reunited once again tee hee.
I picked him up from the airport and in my usual style of precision organisation, had failed to successfully book a car for our road trip to Sydney. It was Christmas hols and everything was booked out. Luckily I put on my jammy dodger hat and after ringing around lucked in on an old ford falcon which was peanuts to rent and ran on LPG gas which costs pennies!!!! So we picked up the car and headed along the coast to Sydney. En route I managed to have a run in with two rather charming (said with a heap of sarcasm) men at two separate gas stations. Both tried to charge me for gas that wasn't mine, the first called me a thief then realised his mistake and apologised and the second was equally as unpolite and i don't think it helped that i kept giggling at them while they were arguing with me ha ha. Steve took over paying after that and we didn't have any more problems so it's obviously something about me!!!
On the road at one point this ginormous lizard (i am not lying) that was the length of a small car, just walked out in the road in front of us, luckily it turned back and we went around it, drove on and steve locked the doors to protect us, what would i do without him hey!!!
At the coast all accommodation was full as it was holiday time and i hadn't booked, woopsy, i like to fly by the seat of my pants. So we had to turn back after being advised we wouldn't find anything for another 400k's. An hour back along the road and we found a cute little motel. The next day we drove on up to Sydney for New Year woot woo!!!
Ok, so when we got to Sydney we pretty much checked out the city as it was Stevey’s first time. Then for New Year we spent it at the harbour by the opera house, drunk bubbly and met up with Zoe and some of my friends from Melbourne. The fireworks were amazing, felt just like a little kiddie at Disneyworld all over again!! For the rest of the time in Syders we drove around the bay (Bondi beach and Watson’s bay with the world famous Doyles fish restaurant. Not that I had ever heard of it before but hey ho, took a photo of the restaurant.) Then we set off on our trip back to Melbourne. What a mission that was. I tend to think I can get a million things done in a very small timeframe, some may look at this as optimism (i.e. me), others as stupidity (most other people). So we didn’t make it very far on the first day of driving and had to make it back to Melbourne to drop the car back on the second day. We more or less had to drive 10 hours straight, in an old car, in ridiculous heat. Hey ho, we made it…..just.
Then we had a night in Melbourne before we flew off to Perth. Had about 3 hours sleep that night by the time we got ready and had to get up stupidly early for the flight. In Perth on the first day, Perth is amazing by the way. Totally chilled out, the people are so laid back and it’s ridiculously quiet, even in rush hour. I think I have found somewhere I could spend a serious amount of time in!!! We had a little walk to some botanical gardens and mozied around the city then fell asleep (I thought we could have a little mid afternoon nap) at 4pm and woke up at 7 the next morning!!!! I love sleep!!! So the next day we went over to Fremantle, which is a little place further down the coast. It was scorching hot, we went out on a speed boat along the coast, had breaky and stumbled across the little creatures brewery which there are pictures of. They have the best beer there yum yum yum. That night we went to an open air cinema in the botanical gardens, such a novelty because I’ve never done that before. We had gold class tickets so we were given bean beds, glass of bubbly and we took a picnic. The film was Top Gun, good old classic!!
For the rest of the time we were there we went over to a little island called Rottnest island and hired bikes. Most people go for the whole day but we just went for a couple of hours and rode around for about an hour and a half, thank god because my butt hurt for days afterwards. I find it really hard to control a bike as well, especially on sand, didn’t actually fall off which was suprising. You ride along the coast which is stunning and on the way back, through salt lakes. V pretty.
We also spent half our week at Cottesloe which is a beach in Perth. We stayed in a really nice hotel, had a deluxe room (only the best dahling) with a Jacuzzi spa in and a view of the Indian ocean. The sunsets are beautiful. Originally we had planned to stay one night which quickly turned into three!!! Cottesloe is so great, spent loads of time on the beach and in the sea. The waves were nuts, it was all I could do to keep my head above water in them as well as keep my bikini over the necessary bits. Must have been so funny for people watching us in the sea who were just sat on the beach. When I got out one day water poured out of my face for about 10 minutes!!
In Perth we also drove down to Margaret River which is an area about 3 hours drive south of Perth. There are lots of wineries with damn good wine. There is also the actual Margaret River and a little down with lots of cafes etc... We went around a few wineries, oh and the car that we hired for the day got upgraded so we had a really smart big car (can't tell you more than that, there's a picture!!) to cruise down the coast in. In the forst winery there was a huge spider in the toilet which almost caused me to pass out when i saw it, i quickly ran out and insisted that steve go back in to pull the flush for me, which he did tee hee hee.
Well that's about all to tell. We flew back to Melbourne, had a day in the city, went and met my work friends for a drink and then took stevey to the airport blub blub. Heads up to Steve back in London!!!
Lots of love one and all.
I'll keep the updates coming!!
