April's Travels
Queenstown.
Ok this place is super trendy in New Zealand. It's similar to Wanaka bigger. We drove to Queenstown with our new little Dutch girl. When we got there we cheked into a hostel and had a little snooze as we were all hungover!! That night we had a curry takeaway in the hostel and as far as i remember just crashed out.
The next day Miss Holland went and did the highest bungy in New Zealand called the Nevis. She is much braver than we are and we were very proud. We went jet boating. Jet boating for those of you who havem't heard of it (i hadn't before) is a speed boat that skims along the water at great speed, can do 360 turns and skim along right next to rock walls and things. The shotover jetboating which we did was along a river in a canyon with small crevices to get through and all sorts. There were only 5 of us on the boat so a lot of the seats were empty. We had loads of layers on because it was absolutely freezing and there were just two rules. Don't stick hands, feet, head etc... out of the boat and don't stand up. Off we went, great fun, whizzing around, doing 360's and all sorts. Then i lost my hat over the seat behind, and instinctively jumped up and reached over the back seat to grab it, oops. Still, didn't fall out so all is good!! It was so cold i thought my face had been cut to shreds when i got off from all the water spraying up.
That afternoon we mozied around the shops then got ready and went into town in the evening! First stop was the ice bar. On the way in you get woolly boots, a coat, gloves etc.. By then end of it i looked like the Michelin women. Then you are taken to the bar which is -6.5 degrees. It's pretty cool.......literally!! I had a vodka cocktail in an ice glass. Everything is made of ice, the bar, the glasses, sculptures, seats. You can only stay in there for half an hour so afterwards we ran to the nearest bar which had a fire and stayed in there for a big glass of red!!
Next stop was a fab bar called Winnies Bagoes where they had the rugby on. We then popped over to an Irish bar where i had Guinness with a dash of port (this is my mother's new drink that i had to try). They couldn't do the clover on top of the guinness though......shocking!!
We ended up in a club called Buffalos and got out about 3 to find it snowing. We kept getting pelted with snow balls in the face and found it to be from a group of Iraqi guys and another group of Brazilians. None of them had ever seen snow before so were going mad for it (thanks very much boys) they were doing snow angels and just going barmy!! Hilarious.
Next day i dragged the girls out of bed. They were massively unimpressed but i wanted to go up to the ski slopes. We got on the bus which took 45 mins (with a hangover this is not good, although i felt perky as anything). It took so long because of all the ice on the road then when we got to the top you couldn't see a damn thing because there was a blizzard. Oops. So we had a plate of mashed potato and watched a few of the skiiers and boarders. When i say watched, you could see them as they came into view a couple of metres ahead of you. Then we went back down to town.
Monday we were leaving. The weather was perfect, clear sunny ckies. We checked out then went up the gondola for a view of Queentown. Had coffees and cake at the top. Took piccies of the view then came back down to town. We then got the car and headed to Milford Sound which was a couple of hours away. Que the next card!!
