April's Travels
Wanaka and the day of fun.
We got to Wanaka on the icy roads from Lake Tekapo. We are star drivers now!! At Wanaka we checked into our hostel and mooched around for the evening, we got chatting to a Dutch girl called Loes and the next day we had our day of fun together.
First of all we set out and went to Puzzle World. It's a big outdoor maze 1.5km long. You have to find your way to the four towers, one in each corner, yellow, blue, green and a red tower. We found them all but getting back to the exit was damn hard. Lots of fun, I kept losing the others and having to call out for them to find me. I liked running around the maze because it made me feel like I was on challenge Anneka, such a big kid. Afterwards we went in the illusion rooms. These were so so cool.
There were lots of hollogram photos to start with which were really good. Particularly a trombone that came 2 metres out of the 'photo' at you. Then there was a room which is all on a slant but with a pool table that looks like it's on a slant, when you put a ball on the lower end and let go, it rolls up the table. Also there was water running up along a gutter. It's so wierd I felt really sick and dizzy in there. In fact it's making me feel queasy thinking about it now. Then there was a room called the wall of faces. There were about 6 sides to the room. Each wall had a series of faces on it. All identical so for example one wall had all Mohammed Ali faces that were identical, there was also Mother Teresa, Einstein and a few others. They looked like massive jelly moulds that went into the wall. When you walked past with one eye closed the faces came out the wall at you and the whole face moved and followed you, it was freaky!!
My favourite room was the dwarf/beast room. When you looked in the room through the bars it looked normal, then you each walk through the door and as you look at each other it looks like one of you as shrunk and the other is massive. If you then walk in the room to the other door, depending on which way you go you either watch yourself grow or shrink. You can watch it back on a video which is hysterical. I laughed so much!!
Afterwards we went into town and had lunch at a posh cafe. Then we mozied around the shops and went over to the cinema in the afternoon. The cinema called Paradiso was a novelty one. It had a cafe in it and the room was full of sofas and a morris minor with a couch in. I got in there and sat down and it was funny because a women sat down behind me and dumped half a box of popcorn on my head as she sat down. Becky of course found it hysterical and I spent the next five minutes picking popcorn out of my ears!!
We watched Brokeback Mountain which is a fab film, I definitely reccomend!! What a steamy kiss those boys have!!
Later on we went back to the hostel, got ready and then went out for a meal at an award winning restaurant. We were lucky all night, firstly in the restaurant they did a special on a Thursday. If you had two courses there was a free wine buffet. We went for it and polished off three bottles of red. Had a fab seafood meal. Then we went off to a random bar we saw and it was happy hour until 1pm. I thought it would be a good idea to drink Whisky. Very stupid of me. I walked in the bar and stumbled back out of it a good few hours later. Had a really good night. The music was excellent so we had a good old boogie and of course owned the dance floor. The kiwis thought they could break dance but were so mistaken. They had an embarrasing attempt at it mid evening which was amusing.
The next day we left for Queenstown. We are now here just in time for another lot of snow, yippee. Will keep you updated!!
Lots of love xx
