April's Travels
En route back round to Christchurch we stopped for a night at the Pancake rocks. The west coast which we drove back up to the north of the island is stunning. We were lucky to have really good sunny weather. The scenery is completely different from what we had been seeing. We drove along the shore, it's really rugged with the waves crashing along the cliffs.
We stopped a night at Pancake rocks and got out to see them at sunset. It's an area where they have slabs of rocks stacked up really high. When the tides in it's sounds really powerful as the waves crash around the rocks. You should be able to see better when i put the pictures on.
The next day we set off for Blenheim, wine country.
In Blenheim we stayed for a couple of nights in town and booked some bikes for a half day to ride around the wineries and do some tasting!!
We were lucky to have a really sunny day again so at lunch time the company came to pick us up and kit us out with bikes and helmets. We were also given a bag which attached to the bikes so you could properly carry your bottles of wine, lovely!!
We set off for the first winery, did some tasting and had lunch there with a bottle to start!! After that we rode on to the other wineries, tasted lots of vino and had a glass here and there. I had some chocolate cake which went down nicely with a glass of white. All in all we had a rather nice trip around the wineries. Managed to fit about 6 in over two hours and then we rode back to camp. Didn't do much that night, had a little snooze!!
