April's Travels
Hello everybody,
We've spent the past week staying at Janine and David's in the lovely Christchurch. We have had such a good week that I feel really rather blue today that we've left!!
Over the week we have been resting up in their beautiful home. Nice big double bed each for Becs and I to spend lots of our time sleeping in. The sleeping disorder has now cured itself!!
We spent a lot of the time walking Henry along the beach and generaly just mooching. Little Henry loves racing so i'd take on the challenge running full pelt along the beach, he's a crafty little nipper and would run under my legs to trip me up and he always won. I lost many a race to a dog with 2" legs!! He also pees everywhere when he gets excited so he totally drenched my trainer one day which meant I had to go out wearing the sock and flip flop look again for a couple of days. He also peed in my room which was really rather lovely. Not as funny though as the time we took him to the beach, he ran up to a stranger who knelt down to pet him just in time for Henry to c*** his leg up to greet her!!! Little tike.
We went into Christchurch a couple of times driving the morris minor. That was hilarious, we looked very snazzy!!
On another day David took us for a drive around Banks Peninsula which is the area they live in. Lots of mountains and lakes which are beautiful. We stopped off high up the mountain for an ice cream and then went to a little sailor town called Lyttleton for a glass of wine. It was such a nice day. The sunset we saw from the beach was amazing.
We were due to leave yesterday but ended up staying a day extra as Janine and David were off skiing at Mnt Hutt for the day. We went along with them and I had my first snowboarding lesson. It was so good, spent the first hour learning to balance on the board then we spent the next hour going down the nursery slope. I had the least experience out of everyone and was put to shame more than a couple of times by 5 year olds whizzing past me. The first few times I went down the slope, the only way I could stop was to fall on my butt. A couple more times going down the slope I could only go full pelt forwards and couldn't for the life of me turn either way. When I first got on the snow board I wanted to board right foot forward because that felt most natural but the instructor told me it was tough, the board was set up for me to ride goofy so that was what i would do....ok then.
I really couldn't turn either way for a few goes I just kept falling over. On about the third time going down the slope it just clicked and I managed to get the hang of it. By this time the lesson was nearly over so I had one more go, and still fell over but am definitely grasping it. Can't wait to go again.
When the slopes closed we went to a friend of Janine and David's nicknamed Wippet. We were off there to watch the rugby. The All Blacks were playing Ireland. We had dinner there, beers and watched the rugby. More importantly we got to watch the Hacker. I love it!! Had a really good time gossiping and having a giggle then went back for a cup of tea at home and bed.
The next day we were up and packing to leave for Mount Cook via Lake Tekapo. We didn't leave until about lunch time in out usual leisurely style. Stopped off for lattes, smoothies etc... on route and we had planned to be in Mnt Cook to stay that night but see Lake Tekapo on the way. Well by the time we reached Tekapo it was raining heavily (apparently hadn't stopped all day) and was getting dark. We found a hostel and settled there for the night. It was pretty cold and I woke up in the night absolutely freezing. Everytime I turned over to a fresh bit of pillow it woke me up because it was so cold. The electricity had gone off and in the morning I could no longer hear the rain which I thought was odd. Then I heard shovelling!!!!!!
