April's Travels
Ok people. We had a very slightly challenging trip to get ourselves from Belize to Honduras, i'll give you a run down.
Originally we meant to leave Placencia on the Friday but the boat was cancelled due to bad weather so we stayed another night. On the next day we caught a bus to Punta Gorda (still in Belize), we stayed there for the night then got up to get the boat out of Belize the next morning.
We got up packed our luggage and hauled ourselves to the dock, we had just enough Belizean dollars between us for immigration and the ferry and with 6 left i ran off to buy sweeties!! Two minutes later we found out we needed dosh to get through Guatemala and into Honduras (obviously) so off i trot to the bank again. Had to haggle with the money changer for Guatemalan money and got 70 of whatever the currency is, although we really needed 80. This is when you need a little luck on your side. So we bundle off to the end of the dock where we find our ride. It's about the size of a speed boat but looks more like a paddle boat, has a few rows of seats and a material canopy!! Excellent. Next we were handed life jackets. Then our names were called, felt like we were being called to our death. The skies were grey and with Becky sitting on the outside preparing herself to throw up we set off. I was sat next to a little spaniard. We chatted a bit, basically me miming panic and trying to mime asking him if i was going to die!! He laughed quite a lot, especially when we were given big blue plastic sheets to keep us dry.
It took an hour, was really bumpy but loads of fun, i could always see the coast and apparently you can swim it in an hour, great. Becs has a few problems with swimming so it would have been more like three hours with her on my back but hey ho!! She took the brunt of the soaking on the boat, when she got off her shorts were considerably wet, which was due to the waves and not an accident so i was assured!!
We got to Guatemala and i sorted it so that we got a mini bus with the spaniard to the Honduran border. He paid the extra 10 that we needed for it, bless him. Three sets of immigration later and we were in Honduras. Three bus rides later and we got to La Ceiba, the town in Honduras on the Carribean coast hooray!!
