party on thursday night went ok, nothing too great since we aren't technically allowed to have parties anyway. friday we learnt about cultural stuff, other than the obvious something interesting was about germany's educaton system. at age ten depending on went their grades are determines what highschool they'll be going to. the highschool are divided into three categroies, good students, averae students and s*** students. from here the good students and some of the better average students can go to uni, the rest of the average students will do an apprenticeship and the s*** students will end up in manufacturing at best, however will be leaving highschool at around age 16 and from that point will earn around 6000 euro a month! the uni students end up having about the same amount of cash by the age of retirement as most of their degrees must go for 5 years or preferably more and from there have to make there way up to a good salary etc etc.
i also forgot to mention that most of the drinks here (to your delite lauren) are carbonate, and it seems to be more normal to have sparkling water than normal still water.
so for the long weekend i and shamus o'brien (sean one of the irish guys) eric (american) and steven (american) went to amsterdam. we got here pretty late because one of the trians was about an hour late due to some weird reason. so once we got there we checked into hans brinker hostel, a crappy hostel where me and shamus stay saturday and sunday night for about 22 euro a night. there both night we shared with 4 other ppl a toilet and shower. it wasn't to bad consdiering, but the toilet there was very weird, cbf explaining it but ask me if you really want to know.
anyways, as we know, amsterdam is very liberal, and on the saturday we arrived there were open urinals in one of the public squares. on a bike tour we went on the next day i learnt that i it's an offence to publically urinate for a guy, but not for females. the story behind this was that public urinals were set up for men but not for women, so the women went on protest and pissed off one of the bridges and so public urinals were setup for women but this didn't last as there toilets were geting used by junkies.
amsterdam was surprising small, but within this filled with all knids of stuff. on the long weekend we were there the city was bustling with so many ppl, seemed like alot of europe took a holiday there for the long weekend. in addition, the alfresco areas of all the restaurants, dam square and other public squares, the streets and the parks were filled with ppl and actually getting used! there were buskers everywhere, ppl socialising, and always seemed like there was something to do unlike some other places (perth). other than the awesome atmosphere of all these different cultures being brought together was the scenery. the old buildings along the canal, the canal bustling with small boats and the small bridges with the beautful churhes, museums and the train station was amazing. however the canals and streets began to look very similar after a while it was easy to get lost. the coffeeshops and red/blue districts were also entertaining.
today we started classes in weisbaden, which had some much more modern classrooms. we first learnt about the aviation industry in europe and then went to frankfurt to lufthansa HQ. here we saw fligt simulators in action and got to go into a 747, the cockpit and captains seat. also i didn't arrive to frankfurt in an airbus, it was just a 747 with the 2 levels.
