Cairns back to Airlie
Monday we were up reasonably early again to get packed up and checked out. The bus we booked back doon to Airlie Beach wisna until Tuesday night though, so we had to spend one last night in Cairns. Afore we checked out we nipped across to the Woodduck to see if we could spend the last night there. We were so fed up we wir own hostel. Thankfully they had two beds, so we just had to shift wir stuff across. However this hostel was just as messy and even more cramped as the last one. After doing that, we made wir way again to the lagoon. Unless you want to go on a Great Barrier Reef trip, which we'd already done, there wisna an awful lot to do in Cairns. We were starting to get kinda bored. We both thought we liked sunbathing, but sunbathing in Australia is a whole different story. It's too hot. And I like hot weather. So we lay for a while, them cooled aff on the pool, then lay for another while ta dry. We headed back up to the hostel around 4 o'clock and went for showers. Then we got wir free meal tickets and went down to the Woolshed for wir free tea. The free meals wirna particularly exciting, we both had chilli and rice, but it was peerie plates and pretty stingy amounts o mince in the chilli. And we had to buy a drink to get the free meal. A $4 coke. After that we wirna quite ready to go back to the hostel so we geed for a walk. It was a nice place to walk at night, all lit up and you could walk right along the shore on a walk way. So we did just that. Getting back to the hostel, we were ready to just fall into bed, so were slightly surprised and frustrated to find an incredibly drunk lass flakes oot on Karis' bed. We got some o her (also drunk) friends, who tried to move her withoot success. We then tried wirsels withoot success. Eventually we decided we wid need to find the night manager, who got grumpy we wis and huffed aboot a bit afore she eventually geed up to try and shift her. Thankfully she did manage and we could climb into bed. The squeakiest, shakiest bunk beds I've ever been in. It was a horrible night consisting of very little sleep. By the time morning cam aroond we were both very ready to get out o there. Turns oot this hostel was no better than the last one. Unfortunately wir bus was only at half midnight so we had a while to wait. Thankfully they let wis leave wir bags. We spent the morning wandering roond, going into shops and looking longingly at things like ugg boots and leather cowboy hats. We sat for a while in the hostel wifi and emailed Michael (the guy we the boat) telling him we would meet him when we got aff the bus the next morning. A trip to Woolworths let wis stock up on some food; dollar loaf and a block of cheese. We then sat on a bench in the street making sandwiches. Karis spread jam on the loaf we a plastic spoon and I cut up the cheese we my credit card. We got some rather funny looks doing this. Wir used to the funny looks by now. The rest of the day, we really just attempted to waste wir time walking around. We stopped a start and listened to the crazy wife that stands in the same place every single day and shouts at the top of her voice about Jesus and how we all need to be saved fae wir sins. Don't keen how she had the lung power to do yun all day?! Wir night time meal was another free one we managed to acquire, at Gilligans this time. This was a plate of curry and rice bit again it was an absolutely tiny portion. At least we still had wir bread and cheese if we got hungry. The hostel let wis hang aboot there until the bus since we had so long to wait, so we chilled in the hammocks, taking advantage o the last of the wifi. The bus is going to be another horrible affair and its fully booked so we canna get a seat to wirsels and stretch oot like we've been doing for the last few. Back to Airlie Beach now.
