Airlie beach
Had a lazy last couple of days in Airlie Beach. The rest of Tuesday was spent in Internet catching up with current affairs (Facebook gossip) and shopping for and making tea. We decided to go for just some rice and sauce out of a jar, easy option. We added some carrots to spice it up a bit. It wisna great... The rice didna cook very weel and seemed to go right fae hard to soupy/porridgey consistency. We ate it anyway.
Wednesday was a very chilled out day. We headed down to the lagoon by the shore and spent the morning sunbathing between swims to cool wis doon. Soooo hot! After we decided we'd frazzled wirselves enough for the day, we took a wander round the toon, browsing the peerie shops and looking pretty longingly at the steaks and calamari that seemed to be the basis of every restaurant menu. Stupid backpacker budget. Tea was the same deal as last night, but was improved slightly by the addition of goon and some salt we stole fae Macdonalds. We were going to go oot that night and experience some Airlie nightlife but were quickly put off by the first $7 vodka going down far too easily...
Thursday we were up and about reasonably early so that we could get checked out for half 10. We went through for breakfast and Karis whispered to me that "we should sit next ta yun boys, they look lik they've made too much food" Sure enough, sitting down a couple of minutes later munching on wir boring old toast we heard a "excuse me, we cooked too much eggs, would you like some?" So wir toast turned inta a much more satisfying scrambled eggs and toast! They then telt wis they were flying to Brisbane that day and so would we like: their pasta, rice musli, olive oil, butter and jam? Played Karis! Thank you German boys! We then accidentally read a sign telling us check out was actually 10, so we had a rather mentally rushed half an hour where we had to pack up an get out! We managed it though! The next task was finding somewhere to put wir bags so that we didna need to carry them roond for the next 10 hours. Found one pretty easily and were just shoving wir bags ta try an get dem inta da same locker when we were approached by an old man and his two peerie dogs. He introduced himself and then asked if we kent anybody who would be interested in sailing to the Gold Coast with him because he wanted to get his boat sooth afore cyclone season. Of coorse we immediately said we wid be! We telt him we wir goin up ta Cairns but wir heading back doon da coast again after. So we got his email address and u to get in touch! The rest of the day was spent discussing literally nothing else. We tried to decide if it would be silly to go sailing with a stranger or if it would be silly to miss such an amazing opportunity. Never did decide. So we hopped on the bus to Cairns that night since we had a couple of days to think about it. Another night bus was not enjoyed in the slightest.
